I still think it's wild as hell that another team can control who another team picks for their driver, like Ferrari gets a seat for Alfa, but it's extra nuts when Merc has a drive with Lewis who is trying to champion diversity and his boss is outright stopping it.
It's a money thing. Mercedes and Ferrari give teams discounts on their engines so they can have a seat for their academy drivers.

You took quite a leap to frame this as Mercedes blocking diversity :dead:

How about looking at it as Toto doing Albon a favor by giving him a Merc junior seat, at a time when they have 2 drivers without a car with Formula E team shutting down? So if Horner really cares about him and in turn diversity, even though they couldn't give him one of their four seats, how about they release him?

You forgot Horner talking shyt how he would give Ocon a Toro Rosso seat if Mercedes released him? And Ocon eventually did have to be released to get a Renault seat.

I also thought it was super funny that they came onto the radio to Bottas and tried to stern voice him into slowing down when they're kicking him to the curb next year......and this is a year after they tried to play hardball when negotiating with Lewis.
They should've told him from the jump not to go for the fast lap before he put in two fastest sectors but they've been in shambles the whole race, the whole year :manny:

Not nearly as bad as Red Bull piting Perez out of a top 10 finish few races ago so he could take the fastest lap away from Lewis.

The reality is Bottas was always going to go for that fastest lap, there was nothing they could do outside of sending him out on 3 wheels.

I thought commentators said he eased up when he got the message. And even in the post race interview after Hamilton said going for the fast lap was fun, when they asked Bottas he was like :whoa:

But you're right, if you pit for new tires with 2 laps to go, what else are you gonna do. :heh:

He probably eased up in the last corner :mjlol:. Can't fault him at all. He had pace to be a solid 3rd place and no more. He had it in his mind that he would be in contention for the win and when he got used as a chess piece, he got in his feelings. He knows his role now :yeshrug:

Exactly, cars are at their lightest and he has the fastest tyres. Bottas did what any racing driver would do.

Nico knows fukkery is afoot at the Mercedes pit wall.
It's not just afoot, they got the gout. This has been apparent to Merc fans for this entire turbo-hybrid era. They constantly get way too cute with strategies trying to show how 'smart' they are. But if Lewis isn't pulling rabbits out of his hat they're pedestrian as fukk. They come up with the most convoluted strategies that bank on Lewis doing the impossible most time. But this year the RB is too strong and that skin of your teeth shyt won't cut it. Lewis has made his mistakes. But nonetheless, I look at France, the setup snafu at Monaco, the BS at Hungary, Spa last weekend-- they're not helping the situation.

Also telling that if they didn’t have such a slow pit, Lewis had a legit chance to be within DRS of Max. At one point after the pit with Bottas still out blocking Max, Lewis was what, 1.4 - 2 seconds behind Max? And his pit was over 3 seconds, completely inexcusable.

Do you brehs think VB will play his part to help bring home the two titles before leaving, or will he go rogue?
