There were restrictions on player movements particularly non European players. Many of the best South Americans and Africans did not play in Europe as they do now. Even taking that into account, these great club players now should show up in the NT, after all Barca players are winning with their NT as well and not just dominating the club scene. I dont think the current Portuguese team is as good as the 2000 team, the French 98-2000 and the one they have now as well as the Dutch 98 team compared to what they have now. I dont think the format of the tournament should make a difference towards the level of talent. Many Nt have regressed, Brazil went from a cycle of Romario-Ronaldo-Rivaldo-Ronaldinho to a team that is struggling to find a consistent number 9. France havent been the same after that 98-2000 generation left, they got to one other final with those old guys because the new generation are just not comparable to the older one.

I recall seeing Serie A in the late 90s, EPL when Sky took over. The la liga Messi/Ronaldo play in is not as good as the early 2000s , back then even Valencia got to back to back CL finals and that was the caliber of competition in addition to Deportivo. Real had to pretty much sacrifice the league to play well in Europe and the only teams that played well in both tournaments were Juventus,Bayern, and United to an extent. The wealth is concentrated in a few clubs and also the talent.

its called "generations" breh some generations are better than others and that will always happen...i dont get your point...all the big nations always have quality players and develop them thats why they are the "big" nations..but some generations are better than others in certain things not in everything...

as for the club thing again you talking about competition between big and small clubs and that has to do with "money" not lack of talent...the teams with most money snaps the best player..its that simple the talent is not as spread out as before...but it goes back to my point about globalization of the game and the tv/money aspect not lack of talent

look breh no disrespect you spewing a bunch of shyt...for those smaller nations you named (bulgaria, denmark, czech) those were never big "teams"... they just happened to have a great generation in those decades (bulgaria 90's, denmark late 80's/early 90's) but were not countries to be known for developing talents or always having talents and the majority of those countries had 2/3 world class players on their teams anyways so stop it:ufdup:

portugal were always shyt besides 66 and then the 90's generation came and they being a top 10 NT since then...France is the same...the NT level now its not as good anymore due to globalization..the small shyt countries now have professionalism and are not amateur anymore like they were in the 80's and before...the gap between the shyt and the top teams is not as big as before because these small nations now are professional and have proper training methods unlike before

club level tell me the teams that had a roster full of talents like Madrid, Barca, Man u and many top teams have now?...u kno that wasnt the case so dont even start..club level is now superior to NT for sure unlike before..the thing is that also the talent was more spread out before too since "money" wasnt big like it is now and many players stayed and played for the same team for years unlike now..

:heh:

The topic at hand is why people think the 80's and 90's players are better than now. And I never said those smaller nations were big teams. Just comparing the talent from then to now.

Also I mentioned already within the last 24 hours about how clubs/countries have a good generation like every 10-15 years (after thinkin it might be more 15-20 for countries), I'm not goin to repeat myself again, because people have already read it.

Portugal were decent in the 80's before the golden generation.

And I already touched on the squad depth nowdays, a post that you acknowledged earlier.

In comparison to their peers yes they are great but in comparison to the older generations not so much, outside of Germany and Spain very few of the big name teams have maintained that and for Spain this is their first cycle of success so they are basically the standard bearers. I just dont see any exponential increase in production of quality players just because of the reasons you mentioned like globalization or even professionalism. The athletes are fitter yes but without even going country by country the 2006 Italian team was better than the 2012 one, not at everything perhaps but probably as an all round team.

Intros for shows were much better in the 90s btw and that goes for all shows not just sports related ones.

City Guys Intro 1 - YouTube

CRACK :whew:

haha, I remember City Guys. In general you're right, but then you'd have bottom feeding swaggering p.diddy inspired pissfukkery like this:

Now, I did like Smart Guy, I just always hated that intro with him swinging his shoulders and dancing.

everytime frush or anyone here says football players aint as good anymore i just :snoop::rudy:

the globalization of the game has taken away the "aura" of some players and nowadays everything is covered and seen unlike before...to me if anything i dont remember seeing that many good players ever talent wise..the game has evolved and like kunty says there is more games now and squad rotation is a MUST...

the problem( to me is a blessing) is that Messi/CR7 are once in a generation players and are a level above everyone else and it takes away from other great players that in other eras would be considered great or the best...when modern football (late 70's/ early 80's) "started" tell me how many players would score as many goals as say messi or cr7? they make it look easy but tell me what great players were scoring as many goals and making it look easy like them after "modern" football started? people were amazed when the R9 scored around 40 for Barca once but messi has done that for years and people are so spoiled nowadays by the likes of messi that when he doesnt score its a travesty/worst thing ever..

what globalization also did is the professionalism of football nowadays is much higher than before...shyt teams/countrys are more competitive/ or harder to break down do to the technological/medical/training advancements in soccer...the game was slower and there was more space back then but it has to do with what i stated above...now there isnt enough "space" but that has to do with the fact there is better training/athletes even in shyt countries/teams...also there is more "specialist" than before too but it has to do with the "space" on the pitch and tactical advancments made..

In all fairness, Pele would still dominate this era more so than Messi. Bigger, faster, just as skilled, he was like 5'8 Wilt Chamberlain.
