Song isn't a true DM.

He thinks he's a deep lying playmaker and he did pick up a lot of assists last season (10+) but he is also caught out of position and on a number of goals we conceded he wasn't doing what should be his main job of protecting the defence.

There's a good argument to be made that, especially when Arteta isn't in, he should be the second man, and not the main DM.

M'Vila (who most likely isn't coming) + Song + Wilshere would be a solid midfield, think Milan away.... we lacked a true Gilberto figure in there to fukk attacks up.

Ramsey was dire this season, Frimpong needs a season out on loan to learn, Coquelin is still developing. Rosicky is cool, but his fitness is always a question and Arteta is obviously a great player but could benefit from not being expected to play every single game.

A bit of competition for places would be welcome and you also need a squad to challenge on all fronts, plus injuries and suspensions... we were light in the centre of midfield last year and this showed when Arteta was out.

We had the full back crisis, but that was more a freak thing... you don't expect 6 full backs to be injured at one time.... centre mids, you can realistically have 2 or 3 out (especially when one is Diaby)

Been watching M'Vila since we went for him last summer, to me dude is Gareth Barry status.

Don't know where the Marcel Desailly 'next Vieira' hype has come from.

No one is the next Vieira, he was unique, it's a shame for him that Roy Keane was always the better player.

Sort of the Messi/Ronaldo situation but on a lesser scale.

We're not Arsenal, you're not going to learn on the job with us. :yeshrug:

He needs to go the Bertrand route and get some football under his belt. Southampton wouldn't be a bad shout.
Word, Chelsea does have this history of success with youth development. Seems that they have it down to a science.
