This has definitely been a great WC and we aren't even in the KO rounds. IDK if having the WC in the middle of the season has something to do with it. The quality of play seems much sharper than in summer world cups. Maybe because players are still at mid-season match fitness. If this WC is a success, I bet we could see more winter WCs in the future.

I been saying the future of Football is Africa for a few years now. Only thing is NOW some of those top players are actually playing for African nations. In the 2040s I anticipate an African nations will make it to the final and potentially win it.
It will probably be Ghana or Nigeria.
Add Cameroon and Ivory Coast to that list as well.

Bayernliga destroyed the German National Team. :troll:

This is actually something I've noticed since 2018 as to why their NT has been underperforming. The German NT is mostly a copy of the Bayern first XI with maybe 2-3 other Bundesliga players. And a common complaint of Bayern of late is that the league is such a stroll for them that the players don't know how to cope when the intensity of a game is turned up like it is in the UCL KO rounds.

Same thing here in this WC. Once an opponent makes them fight, they're not as strong.

For decades? They had Miroslav Klose in 2014?

The game is seeing a dearth of strikers.

I kind of see his point though. Klose was very good for the German NT but at the club level, he was good but nowhere near top striker of his generation or even a top striker within his prime years. Just wasn't that prolific.

I can't think of the last German striker that was, or close to a world beater...

Maybe Mario Gomez?

Beyond that you are going back to Klinsmann and Voeller

The whole quality of teams in this world cup has been piss poor. Definitely the worst Argentina team I've seen in my life time, along with others.

I genuinely believe footballers have evolved but the teams have not got better, and maybe worse. Teams just dont gel like they used to idk why.

It's made for a great world cup though, anyone can beat anyone.

Yea and even Gomez really only had 2 monster seasons with Bayern IIRC. Klinsmann was definitely clinical over his entire career starting at Stuttgart.

Club football has surpassed Int'l football so when we watch Int'l football, it looks less developed than club football. Also, int'l football is limited to the cycle of players available. I think early/mid 2000s Argentia all had prime/near prime Messi, Milito, Tevez, Higuain, Lavezzi etc but lacked sorely in the midfield and FB positions.

Still remember Maradona having 5 strikers on at a point during that elimination match against Germany :dead:

Looking back on it, why tf will you give a national team to Maradona :dead:
