Well let's get it clear - I'm talking about Messi at 23 vs Mbappe at 23.

Spain now isn't elite, I would agree and I stopped following the Premier League a few years ago so wouldn't even know.

My point was more that Messi's LaLiga (up until 23) and the competition he faced in the CL etc was elite compared to Mbappe's Ligue 1 until now.
Oh fair enough , understood

Undisputed GOAT

I'm still estatic at the Argentina win, but heads and shoulders above, there's only one GOAT in world football.

I you downplayed him by listing Kante as more important. you knew what you were doing
There is nothing to argue about. We both agree that Mbappe didn’t carry France to the 2018 World Cup.

You also agree that MBappe probably won’t end up in the GOAT convo.

in terms of goat talk, you could be right. But Pele never played in Europe and never won a balloon d'or and he's in the goat talk.

just for the record, I don't think Mbappe will be the goat, he's not as complete as Messi, Maradona or even Pele(Pele was more complete than people think)

having said that....
you're acting like the french league is the russian league or something, they are a top 5 league in europe :wtf:

all that asterisk talk is noise with a baloon d'or

his goal ratio in the cl is higher than the french league. including knockout stages.

again, Pele never played in europe. nor do I think Mbappe will be a goat.

Yeah, the conversation was about "goat" talk.

Pele played football against part-time truckers, mechanics and shepherds. People that call Pele GOAT fall within three categories - "Your grandad', "your dad" or some hipster kid - usually the hipster kids tends to be casual and thinks name dropping Pele will make them seem more knowledgeable. I'm not saying Pele wasn't supremely talented - I'm just saying most people currently have not watched nowhere near enough footage of Pele (nikkas ain't sitting in the crib watching black and white tapes of brehs running in the mud for hours, let's be real), and that football has evolved and is a lot more competitive and structured now. Your grandad and your dad might be justified in calling him the GOAT - I'm just not sure you, your contemporaries (me included) would be.

I'm not acting like the French league is the Russian league. I even gave it credit with the fact it often produces some of the best ballers around. I'm simply speaking of general perception and that is that if Mbappe spends all his career at PSG - his supposed "GOAT" claim will always have french league tax attached to it due to said perception.

Again, there are plenty of players with ballon d'ors that no one would take a GOAT claim serious from - reminder that this was the context of the conversation.

If he is recognised as one of the best then why does he need to leave

He has 1 world cup

Soon to break the world cup goal scoring record

Since he touched the champions league he has killed off some of the best teams

He wants to win the champions league with his hometown

He will get into every current team in the world, national or club level

People act like Spain n England are elite leagues

He will bag 30+ wherever he goes

Zidane joined juve at around 24...

Because there's a heaven and earth difference between being recognized as one of the best currently and having legitimate "GOAT" shouts. Kaka was the best player in the world at one point - shyt, even Michael Owen was - do they get serious "GOAT" shouts? Moving to a more competitive league and doing what he currently does, will solidify the claims in question.

There's nothing wrong with him wanting to win the CL with his hometown club. That's laudable. I have not faulted him for this.

Spain and England are the defacto elite leagues in club football currently. Serie A used to be, but they fell off. What the fukk is nikkas even talking about right now?

Also, I did say time is on Mbappe's side:

The good thing is that time's on his side

This is the worst take ever.

Anyway, here's a short list of those that agree Pele was the greatest footballer who ever lived :

1. Named Athlete of the Century by the International Olympic Committee;

2. Voted World Player of the Century by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS)

3. FIFA Player of the Century.

4. Guinness book of World Record.

But nah, I'll disregard them and take your word for it.

Reading comprehension continues to fail this thread. I didn’t say Pele isn’t GOAT. I said I don’t think most people my age have seen enough of Pele to say so with their chest out. Recognizing there’s a limit to your knowledge is not a bad thing.

I even said older people are more than likely justified in saying he is GOAT. I just know I’m not.

You also should ask questions, and not accept everything at face value. Again, football now is not like the football then. Sports science and tactical structure have come leaps and bounds.

None of these mean absolutely anything to anyone with a brain.

Man said FIFA PLAYER OF THE CENTURY :bryan:

Kaka wasnt doin what Mbappe is currently doing..nor was Owen

Bappe has proven himself already before hitting 25,

He has hit bigger heights than any English striker and they Hardly leave the English league to test themselves

Kane won't even test himself at a bigger English team

Bappe is 23 he has all the time in the world to join whatever league he wants , why rush ?

Kante came to the English league from the French league and took the piss

Let's not act like the English league is some top class division from top to bottom .. I mean look at the league now

United are shyt

Liverpool are struggling( finished 2nd in their champions league group )

Arsenal are at the top of the table( currently in the Europe league )

Newcastle are riding high....

Leicester City once won the league then struggled big time the following year

West ham who was on a madness last year look full time shyt this year
