Brazil had the best team with the best odds. It was a smart decision at the time. One that most fans of all ilks and bettors took.

I’ve never said otherwise. I’m saying the perception that Ligue 1 is a lesser league exists and the CL - as prestigious as it is - won’t stop people from disputing whatever claims Mbappe may have. Especially when he plays for a state funded club. You need only to look 3 posts up and you’ll see a “Spanish league vs French league” remark. And this isn’t just a regular people thing - it’s also carried by his peers and journalists

International trophies + CL at PSG = cool
International trophies + CL at La Liga or Prem = better

That’s just how it is and I don’t know why nikkas trying to be disingenuous and acting as if it isn’t

Nah. Ronaldo had some seasons in which he was in the stratosphere too in that period. It’s not that clear cut. Though overall, Messi >>> of course.
I've seen too many posts on other sites saying, whatever he does in Ligue 1 doesn't count. He had the best year last year of anyone metrics-wise but finished 6th in Ballon d'Or. It's a joke and always has been which is why I focus on the data/stats when it comes to football and the eye test. But Karim killed powerful squads like Celta de Vigo and wins the award. On top of that, all of the newspapers call him immature and throw salt at him at every chance. It's not like he's judged fairly or beloved when we know he's not.

I love Cryuff too and you just lied like a bytchass nikka right here. This is one of those, Bird better than LeBron posts that just kills the forum's respect. This board is definitely bottom 5 when it comes to soccer IQ and knowledge of the game. The shyt I read here, only read it here. No one on BS or Reddit is saying stupid shyt like this.
:dahell: Damn near everybody who follows this sport has Cruyff as a top 10 player.

That hat-trick with 2 penalties got you nikkas talking stupid. Mbappe is a speed merchant. He's nowhere near GOAT level :camby:

You had media around the world and fans questioning his desire to be great for choosing to stay in France

Says it all

Once club football picks up again, he'll go back to being overshadowed by Haaland

This is thecoli 101. I was waiting for an idiot to say it. The equivalent to all LeBron does is put his head down and drive to the basket. He's not good, he's just big

its a good time to be a Messi stan :picard:
yeah....I've been so pissed off at the french cowardness and DD focused, that I realized last night that the biggest L in this whole world cup goes to Ronaldo stans(and Ronaldo too since he's obsessed with the Messi comps)
Like I said - in an ideal world this would be true, but the world isn't ideal and the fact is until he moves to either England or Spain it will always be "farmer's league/uber eats league". That's the asterisk.

Players aren't solely assessed on their national team contributions. I'd even argue that recently club football has had more attention than international football. You think people are screaming Messi GOAT solely because he won the world cup today - and not because of what he's done with Barcelona?
Mbappe needs to move. You can try and fight it, but it is what it is :yeshrug:
Mbappe was already a bigger name than anyone in the Premier League the last world cup, this WC finals just solidify his name even more. if PSG, wins the CL(assuming he continues being the top scorer and threat guy), he will win the baloon D'or just like most Baloon d'or winners the last 20 years. I don't know where you got this idea that he needs to move to England to win and not have an asterik. when was the last time a PL player won one? most casuals and hardcore fans already have Mbappe as a top 3 player in the world AT WOST.

so no, I think it's just you that think this way. he'll be fine at psg

I don't know about GOAT discussions or stats or whatever.

What I'll say is that this match was an iconic legendary game, partly because of what was at stakes, and Mbappe's contribution is what added the suspense and tension. He helped create one of the most iconic matches of all time.

On a related note, is there a stat that highlights the player who draw fouls that lead to PKs? I feel like that should be a thing if it isn't already

The Arsenal
argentina's world cup win can be traced to this moment.

e3tsdtai4p6a1.jpg

in june 2020 neal maupay (#7) an argentine-french striker injured arsenal's german goalkeeper bernd leno and emi martinez who had spent a decade at arsenal since 17 years old and was a middling to poor keeper who was sent out on loan repeatedly and never really looked that good on loan. he then replaces leno after most arsenal fans figured our season was done, he plays out of his mind, dominating the box, being good at pens and arsenal wins the FA cup. martinez also said before he would have anxiety issues and the empty stadiums due to covid helped him greatly. he's flying high thinking he is now the #1 at his beloved arsenal, but arteta tells him he will have to win the job from leno. he requests a transfer because he can't go back to being a backup he wants a guaranteed #1 job at age 27. aston villa pays 20 million pounds for him and argentina calls him up and the rest is history.

Mbappe is a better scorer at the same age. Mbappe is far more versatile offensively. Mbappe cannot be marked by two defenders. You gotta have a shift to guard that nikka. That's Pele/R9 shyt. His ability to play the pass is world-class. His speed is world-class. His speed with the ball is world-class. His dribbling is world-class. His strength is world-class with the ball at his feet, not without the ball of course. His feel for the game is world-class. His passing is world-class when he's focused. That's the area I will give Messi and even CR7 over Mbappe is focus but when Mbappe is focused, you can't do shyt with him and when he wants to carry his team, he does just that, regardless of others. That's not Messi. I've watched too many games where Messi just mopes around the pitch. When he has great squads like this one or the Barca ones, he rarely mopes and is always a threat but I've seen Messi mope a lot, especially his last year at Barca. It wasn't pretty or even last year at PSG.

I like my elite players to feel like they are two nikkas on the pitch like you playing 12 on 11. That's what Mbappe is. That's what Pele was. I even loved what Maradona was. He can just carry motherfukkas and make them much better. I never got that feel from Messi. I have always seen him as a finisher or perfect fit when you need to get over. He's not that guy that you just have him carry you. I felt CR7 was better at that. R9 was better at it. Zidane was better at it. Maradona was way better at it. Pele and Mbappe, way better at it. I prefer LeBron. I prefer Tom Brady. I prefer Cam Newton at Auburn. I don't know if it's a personality thing but he's not that guy to me and for me, that's why he ain't that guy as an unquestioned GOAT. Pele is. I like mfers to carry mfers to greatness.
just bow this one out breh :mjcry:

as someone who is black/african excellence, we gotta have the midget cac have this one.:mjcry:

I don't think you realize how much of a medigod he was at 23

not even 17-22 year old Ronaldo9, was that good :mjcry:

I do think there will be a player that will match Messi or better in the next 20 years though. and it will be a breh......

we still have time :wow:
