RIP to Grant Wahl that is shocking and sad but the conspiracy theories are ridiculous.

No chance he was killed by anyone because of his tweet, there’s 15k accredited journalists at the World Cup and damn near every single Western one has said something critical about Qatar.

The country that’s hosting biggest US military base in the Middle East isn’t killing any American let alone a journalist over a tweet.

This story was run by the Guardian, BBC, NYT, Reuters, the Athletic ( just off top of my head) he didn’t die over this.

But this is his thoughts and criticisms of the organizers. I’m not saying he was killed just for this article, but clear this and the shirt incident he made himself a threat.

Don't know how you can so sure what happened without proof. This is the same regime that hid thousands of migrant deaths, them killing a journalist isn't crazy.

I can make a list of at least 60 journalists at the World Cup that have criticized Qatar and organizers relentlessly. The shirt incident happened nearly two weeks ago by now and he still ended up watching that game wearing the same shirt.

I get why shocked relatives will jump to conclusions, but anyone else trying to claim this was some sort of assasination is out to lunch. Latest word is he collapsed at the game. Is the theory they poisoned him?

He was not killed. Pump the brakes.

Maybe he did legitimately collapse, we really won’t know until an autopsy is done in the states. I’m just saying based on what has happened with Wahl, foul play can’t be dismissed.

Geopolitics and common sense will tell you its near zero chance he was killed. It’s a Western friendly country that is reliant on the US in particular for its security.

He is also hardly the most high profile journalist at the World Cup let alone Qatar’s most high profile critic. I doubt the Qatari Government even knows who he is. Again, I understand why family would draw conclusions amidst shock, but random Americans are really overstating relevance of that incident and only going back to it now to weave a conspiracy. 99 percent chance more details will come out showing it was a medical incident.

The key thing is keep Grant's body in American custody, leave it how it is, and then let the coroner do their findings. I mean there have been times where a football players, who look healthy, have a heart defect and then hit the ground dead from cardiac arrest.

Grant said he 'thought' he had bronchitis, maybe it was a sign that he was about to go into cardiac arrest himself.

He interviewed the CEO of the Supreme Committee just a couple days ago. They definitely know who he is. You're being way too dismissive about this. Not saying they killed him, just wait and see.

PKs occur in game as well. There’s a modification of the procedure for the shootout but let’s kill this talk that PKs have no resemblance on the actual game.

Bullshyt. In-game penalties are rare as hell - so far this year there's only been 14 penalties shot in 58 games, and even that number is distorted by the fact that they let Messi shoot a penalty in every game. Since two teams play every match, if your name isn't Messi than your team had less than a 1 in 10 chance of taking a penalty in any one game (11 penalties across 111 non-Argentina team games played).

On top of that, only 1 out of 16 players shoots that in-game penalty. So not only do 90% of the teams not shoot a penalty, but over 90% of the players on any one team aren't going to be the one shooting it even if they do. So if you're a World Cup soccer player there is less than 1 in 100 chance that you'll shoot an in-game penalty at any point in the World Cup.

Yet then you do this totally artificial penalty shootout where most of the players involved would never be picked to shoot the in-game penalty, where they all do it in an artificial atmosphere lined up one after the other, and where the goalie is in sync defending them instead of just getting one in the course of play. There's a reason why success rate in penalty shootouts is significantly lower than success rate in in-game penalties.

NONE of the players kicking penalties for the Netherlands has taken an in-game penalty shot at any point this entire World Cup. Same goes for Brazil in the shootout they lost. Same goes for Japan in the shootout they lost. Morocco hadn't taken a single in-game penalty all World Cup before their shootout, nor had Croatia before they shot 10 of them in shootouts.

It's ridiculous that half the World Cup semifinalists have already been decided based on something that resembles a practice drill more than any actual gameplay.
