Slovakia 1 – 1 Romania

Sokoli (The Falcons) met the Vampires. Sokoli flew away and the Vampires fled from the sunlight.

Ukraine 0 – 0 Belgium

Nothing worth talking about.

Georgia 2 – 0 Portugal

ჯვაროსნები/Jvarosnebi (Crusaders) broke A Seleção das Quinas (The Team of the Escutcheons/Shields).

Czech Republic 1 – 2 Turkey

Ay-Yıldızlılar (The Crescent-Stars) derailed Lokomotiva (The Locomotives).

Sokoli (The Falcons) fly into the knockout stage.
ჯვაროსნები/Jvarosnebi (Crusaders) take back the holy city... I mean make their way to the knockout stage.
A Seleção das Quinas (The Team of the Escutcheons/Shields) slam their way to the knockout stage.
De Rode Duivels/Les Diables rouges/Die Roten Teufel (The Red Devils) diced their way to the knockout stage.
Ay-Yıldızlılar (The Crescent-Stars) light their way through to the knockout stage.
The Vampires stalk their way through to the knockout stage.

Portugal, France & England all have stacked squads full of talent but all have awful managers
at least Deschamps has won something but that probably kept him in the job longer than most French people wanted him, just like Southgate and him getting the easy side of the draw in the knockout stages
It did. Zidane was supposed to take over after last WC but the federation told Deschamps the decision to continue was his. DD probably scared of retirement I feel.

And really there aint much to say. We don't play great but we do get results. 4 major tourneys, 3 finals, 1 win. And we also won that trash ass Nations League.

i do think that if we lose to Belgium or Portugal, it'll be the end of his cycle.

Alexi getting roasted

Lalas yelling his thoughts during the coverage has stood out, and not in a good way.

Sturridge represents the new-era feel of soccer coverage that is more akin to that of CBS Sports. He suffered through Lalas’ analysis of England. While Lalas may have been making fair points about a dreadful England side, the nature of turning everything into a metaphor or callback to something in media is drawn out. American fans do not need to be coddled to make soccer relatable. They want a critical analysis of the sport where possible.

But when it comes to Fox’s coverage of Euro 2024and Copa America, there seems to be a toxicity around Lalas’ mere presence on set that isn’t seen elsewhere in sports television. As if it is actively harming the product and the enjoyment of soccer fans instead of a mere nuisance or just something to complain about on social media.

Let me tell y’all why Portugal can’t be trusted, and it’s not the players.

Martinez, vs Georgia did this:

- Played a back 3, despite that system struggling for them in the opening game.
- Danilo, a DM played in a back 3.
- Joao Neves, a terrific player who is used to bringing the ball up, barely had any touches due to the back 3 system + Felix.
- Started Palhinha, a terrific ball winner who’s often too aggressive…in a meaningless game when he was already on a yellow, Palhinha is top 2 most important player in the squad in the knockout stages in a midfield that is all too similar (Bernardo, Bruno, Vitinha).
- Played Pedro Neto, A RW as a LWB.
- Played Joao Felix completely in a roaming role that did not fit in the structure and balance of the team.
- Started Ronaldo again, ahead of Ramos and Jota who have barely played, and will be needed if they need to goals in the knockout stages.
- Is using Ruben Neves as a DM which is not at all what he is, and Neves’ strengths are not needed in a team that already has Bruno, Bernardo, Vitinha. If there is no Palhinha, the only other mid who can bring a little of what you need from Palhinha is Nunes, and he played 10 minutes. Not having Renato Sanches at all is going to kill them when Palhinha inevitably gets suspended.

A masterclass in how to get EVERYTHING wrong.

Basically the game was a free hit to give the rest of the squad a run out instead of them being cold for the KO rounds. The Turkey Czech matches they were playing with 3atb anyway. Yeah it might of been listed as a 4231/433. But knowing Martinez that shyt is a 343 regardless in attack.

He was trying to get C Tart a goal. If he isn't scoring you know he's going to start being even more of a gunner :youngsabo:
Ramos should of definitely got a run out tho. Jota he's a super sub has a great mentality him not starting isn't s important tbh.

Bruno and Bernardo needed the rest.

Renato Sanches doesn't even trust himself to stay fit. Quality player but with him you don't know if he's going to last 90mins or 90 secs.

Danilo has played nearly 100 games at CB and over 50 with PSG in the past 2 seasons.

Bobby Martinez is a terrible fit for Portugal but I guess they wanted a more possession heavy style over the Fernando Santos and other Portuguese coaches terrorism tactics. From the Portuguese FA POV I understand why they hired him but his football isn't winning football. There's always something missing. Lack of a plan B which always goes back to his Wigan days.

Portugal need to bin C Tart and then Martinez straight after.
