Jo'Burg has crime issues. All the homes are like barracks, high as hell with barb wires on top. Don't talk on the phone while walking or leave it in plain sight in a car or talk on the phone at a red light. You know the country's weather is actually the reverse of North America. It's actually summer temperatures right now while if you go in June, it's cold. Just use common sense you will be alright.

I'm going in April so idk what to expect. Lol, nices homes in Nigeria are like that as well. Individually fenced with either barbed wire or electrical wiring. People don't play those games.

Good looks in the phone part. In places in Lagos, once night falls I don't take my phone out. In crowded places keep your hands in your pockets. I got my phone picked off that way before.

I can't wait till I get this US passport. Needing a visa can be such a hassle.

The flight I had been looking at for my DC-Jo'Burg-Nairobi trip is no longer available :francis:
Next best option is like $400 dollars more expensive :francis:

I may have to pick one of the other :francis:

EDIT: I'll still go to SA. It's my B-day trip so I'll splurge a bit. Sometimes you just gotta pay top dollar for top experiences.

I'm an attorney by trade but currently doing strategy consulting in emerging markets. Basically helping outside investors jump into African companies. For the investors, I have to create proper business entities to invest and get their dividends out, and for the company, I work with a team that helps improve the inefficiencies within the company.

My goal is to one day start or be part of a fund ran by African Americans investing in Africa and gettting people to come back and transfer skills/knowledge to the people here.

I know this is an old reply, but how would you suggest one get into the field that you have?

Would international business be a good degree to get?

I wish I could be there for 3 months :mjcry:

Will be in Jo'Burg for 1st week in April and Nairobi for the 2nd week in April.

Bet. I’ll have been there for a good month by then. If you need anything while you out there, I’ll Probably be able to help.

Just touched down in Monrovia

I will be on a connecting flight there next month form Freetown. I wanted to spend a couple of days in Liberia, but my upcoming trip to Sierra Leone will take up all of my time on this trip.

Maybe going back to SA again by the end of the year. If not, going to either Cape Verde with my homegirl or Seychelles around this same time next year
