DC is shot out; they are going to be putting out a Vibe solo comic.
MTV Geek – EXCLUSIVE!: ‘Justice League of America’ #1 Triumphs with 52 State Variants, Plus More News
Don't wait until 2015 to get excited about the "Justice League" -- DC Comics is kicking off 2013 in a BIG way for the "JLA"! And they're doing it by getting to the roots of what makes the Justice League of America so special -- their wonderfully diverse homebase, the United States!

February will see not only the release of the highly-anticipated "Justice League of America" #1 (by the powerhouse team of Geoff Johns and David Finch) -- but 52 variant covers, one for each state, as well as Puerto Rico and Washington D.C. We'll also get solo books for two fan-favorite characters, Vibe (by "Arrow" creator Andrew Kreisberg and artist Pete Woods) and Katana (written by "Catwoman" scribe Ann Nocenti and artist Alex Sanchez).
Also, the immense popularity of the CW show "Arrow" also couldn't possibly be ignored, and we'll see an exciting new era for "Green Arrow" starting with issue #17 with new series team Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino. GA, Vibe and Katana will also all be teammates on the "Justice League of America," just part of DC's commitment to strengthen the brand and grow its universe of diverse and intriguing characters.

"We've done a lot of great things with the 'New 52," DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio exclusively told MTV Geek, "and now we're putting the focus back on Justice League, with the launch of 'Justice League of America'. We want to make people realize that this is one of our key franchises, and we plan to build it out not just with the main 'Justice League' titles, but other books that tie into them as well."

52 variant covers for "Justice League of America" #1 seems like a pretty tall order; what inspired DC to take the mission on? Explains DiDio:

"Given the title of the comic and the year in which we're announcing -- an election year -- we wanted to celebrate the country, as well as the various states."

There will the initial "regular" cover of "Justice League of America" #1 -- featuring an American flag -- and then each of the variants will depict elements from each of the states. The sure-to-be collectible cover initiative will not be an "incentive" stunt for comic book retailers -- every shop owner has the equal opportunity to buy every cover equally.

Given the fact that America is about to go to the election polls, and are coming together to support the relief efforts for those impacted by Hurricane Sandy, this is the sort of positive comic news that contributes to hope and pride in the United States. Further, given the diverse ethnic backgrounds of Vibe and Katana, it all just makes the "Justice League" universe -- and, in turn, DC -- seem just a bit more inclusive. We need all those things in this industry, and in the comics we love.

Because what is the use of the tales of Heroes if not to inspire, bringing people together while celebrating our differences?

Stay tuned to MTV Geek all day long, as we will be rolling out exclusive creator essays and art from "Justice League of America," "Justice League of America's Vibe," Katana," and "Green Arrow." And don't forget to hit stores during February 2013 for all these comics -- as well as the special "Justice League of America" cover for your state!

I never thought I would ever see the day that Vibe of all characters would be given his own title.

Marvel has created the mascot for the Brooklyn Nets...BrooklynKnight!
Marvel Entertainment and the Brooklyn Nets are proud to announce the creation of Brooklyn’s new Super Hero and the first one in NBA history. Enter BrooklyKnight, protector of Brooklyn’s hometown team, defender of New York’s largest and most courageous borough, and ruler of Barclays Center.

BrooklyKnight made his debut tonight in the Brooklyn Nets’ first-ever regular season game in their new home, Barclays Center, against the Toronto Raptors. Before the start of the game, the BrooklyKnight boldly landed at center court to inspire his team and rally the crowd. To commemorate the first appearance of this historic new sports icon, Marvel Custom Solutions worked with the Nets to create BrooklyKnight #1, an all-new 32-page comic book by Jason Aaron, writer of Thor: God of Thunder and Wolverine & The X-Men and illustrated by artist Mike Deodato of Amazing Spider-Man and New Avengers fame. All guests at tonight’s game received copies of the limited edition comic book.

I am hoping we get the Bendis that writes so well for Ultimate Spiderman and not the Bendis that basically produced shyt during his Avengers run.

I REALLY wish they could of just kept Gillen going but it's obvious they want him to spread his charms over the Iron Man franchise:gag: People claim that Dark Avengers was a good Bendis book..he'll definitely need to follow that formula with the rumored cast in this book(Cyclops, Magneto, Magik, Emma, Danger)...

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson helps Superman find Krypton

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson is famed as host of PBS’s NOVA scienceNOW and as a frequent guest on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. But as of this week, he’ll also be known as the man who located Krypton.

In a story called “Star Light, Star Bright” in Action Comics #14, which goes on sale Wednesday, Tyson himself helps Superman find his homeworld on the last day of its existence.

“As a native of Metropolis, I was delighted to help Superman, who has done so much for my city over all these years,” Tyson said. “And it’s clear that if he weren’t a superhero he would have made quite an astrophysicist.”

In reality, using information provided by DC Comics, the director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History did pinpoint a red dwarf star capable of supporting of Krypton-like planet in the constellation Corvus — 27.1 light years from Earth. The star can be seen at right ascension 12 hours, 10 minutes, 05.60 seconds, and declination 15 degrees, 04’ 15.66.
“This is a major milestone in the Superman mythos that gives our Super Hero a place in the universe,” said DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Dan DiDio. “Having Neil deGrasse Tyson in the book was one thing, but by applying real world science to this story he has forever changed Superman’s place in history. Now fans will be able to look up at the night’s sky and say – ‘that’s where Superman was born.’”

This sounds incredibly cool. I'm going to have to pick up this issue just on the strength of Tyson being involved.

Since I don't give a damn about the Iron Man comic I wish they had given that to Bendis and let Gillen continue to handle UNcanny.

I like the Iron Man movies but it ends there. Even when he was a douche post Civil War, he wasn't a good read since you KNEW he wasn't gonna stay a real villain. He got sonned by Hulk/Thor/Osborn/Kingpin when it was all said and done...he's pushed too hard as some second rate Dr. Doom level genius too.

Oh snap! I had no clue about this story.

Artist Justiniano sentenced to prison for possession of child porn

Josue Rivera, better known to comics fans as the artist Justiano, was sentenced this morning in Connecticut to 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography, suspended after he serves three years. That will be followed by 10 years probation.

The Creeper artist pleaded guilty in July to second-degree possession of child pornography following a 2010 incident in which he mistakenly gave a funeral home director a thumb drive containing 33 files classified by police as child pornography instead of the one containing photos of a deceased relative. Police later seized Rivera’s computer and found additional files of suspected child pornography.

Although the 39-year-old artist claimed at one point he had only been looking at the photos because he was bored, the Connecticut Post reports the files included the head of Rivera’s 10-year-old niece Photoshopped onto the nude body of a girl having oral sex.

When asked this morning by the judge whether he had anything to say, the newspaper reports Rivera responded, “I think I’m good.”

He initially pleaded not guilty to first-degree possession of child pornography, and requested a jury trial. But then in June a judge denied a motion to suppress the thumb drive, which Rivera’s attorney argued was obtained by police through an illegal, warrantless search. The judge ruled the search valid, as the material on the drive was brought to the attention of the police by a third party, the funeral home director.

As Justiniano, Rivera had penciled such titles as DC Comics’ The Creeper, Day of Vengeance and Countdown to Mystery, as well as Chaos! Comics’ Chastity: Rocked and Evil Ernie: Straight to Hell.

Dude was a pretty good artist but damn...kiddie porn? :gag:
