Ghana, South Africa, Colombia....which one brehs? :jbhmm:
Best place to visit in Southeast Asia?

I'm actually have a debate between Ghana, South Africa, Colombia, Kenya and Brazil for my birthday in April with my cousin.

Right now I've narrowed in on either Brazil, Kenya or South Africa. I decided against Ghana and Colombia. Reason below:

Ghana - I've been there before, although for a week when I was 16. Also, as a Nigerian, Ghana is very similar to Nigeria. It's similar to someone from NY going to London or Toronto. It's nice, but nothing you haven't seen before. The bigger reason though is that one of my Uncles got a job out in Accra and he's caking on something serious. So now, going Ghana is less of a thing I have to plan for. Now, when I'm Lagos I just have to catch a quick 1 hr flight to Accra and I can chill at his spot. Ghana becomes like a weekend trip when I'm in Nigeria. Takes a bit of the "urgency" away from me going to visit. I now see it similar to living in DC but visiting NYC/Philly for a weekend on a whim

Colombia - Very very tempting. Especially after watching Narcos, lol. Colombia is slowly becoming an under the radar, budget friendly travel destination. But when I compared it to the Brazil as the other Latin American competitor, Brazil beat it hands down based on "clout". Additionally, my cousin has some family that worked high up with some Brazilian companies that are well connected with diplomats and such. So we could possibly get some nice freebies and such.

As for the others:
Kenya - The Giant of East Africa. Akin to Nigeria in West Africa in terms of pull. Vibrant economy and populace. Also, no visa requirements for all African Nationals :whew:. To any brehs that have gone through the process of getting a visa, this change from Kenya is a game changer.

South Africa - If Nigeria is 1 then South Africa is 2. We (Nigerians) are always in competition with SA. I'd like to base my smack talk with some credibility, hence me wanting to visit.

Brazil - See in the Colombia explanation. It's Brazil, it's a no brainer.

I'll give you a low down of some of the places I have knowledge on. I can't give a definite recommendation as it depends on your scene. However, I think overall you'll probably get more out of Thailand. You can check out the nightlife in Bangkok for a few days then check out the pristine beaches in Phuket.

Cambodia is also nice (worked in Phnom Penh for 10 weeks 2 years ago). The main thing in Cambodia is Angkor Wat, the huge city/temple complex in Siem Reap. It's cool to see but honestly after like 3 or 4 sites things start to look the same. You may get "templed out". There's also the Killing Fields you can go see.

Laos not much popping here. I didn't go, but some boys that I met in Cambodia told me it was cool to see the back country and they went to some buddhist temple and had a bowl of water mixed with shrooms. A good number of the Europeans I encountered went there for drugs :manny:.

Vietnam Didn't go because the Vietnamese government wasn't giving visas to Nigerians at the time :mjpls:. I heard from some backpackers there was a good deal of history to be see regarding the Vietnamese war and the rest. Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi are the to-go destinations.

Singapore stopped over there for a fews hours just to check it out. Very clean, lots of tall buildings but nothing really mind-blowing. Kinda felt artificial to be honest. Things are mad pricey so I dipped quickly to my main destination

Malaysia I came here after my brief stopover in Singapore. Went to visit a high school classmate in Kuala Lumpur (KL). Really cool city, kind of like a poor man's Chicago with less density and more heat. Some nice nightlife in Bukit Bintang and such.

Indonesia Two ways to look at it: Relaxation: Bali , Getting the feel of Indonesia: Jakarta.

I think you can do mainland Indochina (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam) over the course of 10 or 12 days. It's a dope time mine. Keep us updated.

And people wonder why I prefer to travel solo dolo.
My cousin and I were meant to hit up Brazil for 10 days in April '18 for my B-day. Now he's telling me that Summer '18 would be better because funds are low for a trip in April :francis:

That's my boy for life but damn man.
Back to the drawing board. I gotta take those 10 days off from work if not I'll lose them :francis:.

Now I gotta decide between either Nigeria & Ghana (with a brief stop in Cote D'Ivoire), Brazil, South Africa or Kenya.

Nigeria & Ghana would be the cheapest. I got family there so I'm only really paying for the ticket and the money I spend there. But those two places are too familiar. I could do them for Christmas in 2018. Christmas is always the livest time to go.

I'll probably just save Brazil for when he's ready.

South Africa or Kenya :jbhmm:

Kenya got that visa free travel :ehh:
But South Africa is like Nigeria's rival. I gotta see what the country is like live and direct so I can trash talk them properly :ehh:

The travel bug ain't no joke brehs :francis:. My next gig is gonna be international. This 4 weeks off a year is for the birds :hhh:. There's a world and moves to be made outside of the US.

@the bossman

You went to both Kenya and South Africa. Which is better?

I'm mad torn between both of them.

Could I do both of them in 10 days or would that be short-changing my experience?

@Cynic Bro, how was your time in South Africa? I'm debating between there (JoBurg specifically) and Nairobi for my birthday in April. Probably gonna be there for like 2 weeks.

whew this a tough one breh.. :whew: really some of the top heavyweights of the continent. battle of titans

Off top, I'll definitely say to try to do both in 10 days would be short-changing your experience. Pick one and ball out because once you start having fun in one city in one country you'll want to start seeing the others and you'll end up eating up time traveling back and forth.

be more specific, what are you honestly looking for in your trip?

as cliche as it sounds, I will say it really depends what you looking for. if you want complete variety(great beaches, great city life, greatnightlife, great food, etc.) I would say South Africa by a little bit.

Let's be real, top 2 things brehs wanna know for most countries they visit:

-women: I give it to SA (slightly). the asses, the way they dance, friendly as fukk, shyt was just :noah:. I would def say I saw more stunners in SA than I did in Kenya. Kenyan broads were sexy as hell too, but felt a little bit more hustle mode. maybe it's just the spots i went to, but there were a couple clubs where broads were clearly on a serious hunt for clients. soon as I grabbed my drink one broad sat down next to me on some "do you like having fun? how about some sex?". shyt got little annoying after a while trying to figure out who was a ho working and who was just a regular chick having fun.

-nightlife: it is tough for real, because you can't go wrong either way, but I had better nightlife experience in Kenya. Nairobi especially. shyt was a little more organized. some of the best clubs I've experienced in my life in terms of customer service, music, bytches, venues, all of that. I was rollin with a few locals and had the time of my life since they knew all the hot spots to go to. We bounced from one club to the next and the next one was always jumpin. I mean 5am in Nairobi we roll up to this one open-air spot and there's at least 500 people there just living life, vibing, grilling suya meat on the side, having a good ass time. But at the same time Joburg is no slouch. memories of Cubana in Durban :whew:

if you on some nature safari shyt. :mjpls: then Kenya

I'll put it like this. I used to say if I ever moved to the continent I would live in SA. the whole vibe and the women :to:. But now that I've experienced Kenya, i would say I'd rather live in Nairobi. The reason is that once you're there, you can feel the level of hustle, development, just major moves being made all around you. so many people on their entrepreneur shyt there. with innovative products and services that are changing the face of Africa on a real level. it's contagious. Chinese are getting it in. Indians. Locals as well, but I wish there were more of us doing it.

If it's me knowing what I know now. if I have 10 days and I just want to do nothing but party, smash broads, straight up debauchery the entire time then I would probably head down SA and just bounce between the big 3 (Joburg,CT,Durban) also because the dollar stretches a little bit further down there than Kenya. If you looking to have fun, but at the same time also be in a position to meet some movers and shakers, make some connects for possible future business ventures with other fellow African brehs, etc. I would do Nairobi. All in all breh, you won't be disappointed either way you go. :salute: enjoy yaself breh.

Keep in mind if you go April , Kenya's rainy season is in April. like 8 inches plus of rain. :huhldup:

I'll mention some things I didn't like too:
SA: some of the clubs had atrocious customer service. some bartenders won't even look at you unless you got cash tip in hand ready to go.
Kenya: Nairobi traffic is HORRIBLE. I thought I knew traffic spending time in DC, LA, etc. but that shyt is next level. a 30 minute drive can easily take 2 hours depending on time of day.

I forgot to mention. be on the look out. Some Kenyans are on that :mjpls: with Nigerians apparently.

Some of your peoples must have been up to some fukkery & gave yall a bad rep over there. Some broads were flat out "i don't fukk with nigerians":scust:.

Her: Are you Nigerian? :leostare:

me: :hubie:nah babe. my folks Cameroonian :pachaha:

her: ok :hug:

whew this a tough one breh.. :whew: really some of the top heavyweights of the continent. battle of titans.....

This post right here is exactly what I was looking for. It's tough to choose between the two.

Update: Trip may actually be a full 2 weeks. So Apr 1st to 14th. In that case do you think doing SA (Jozi specifically, or where the "most fun" for a breh is) and Nairobi could be feasible?

I'm looking for a mixture of partying but also business tourism. And trust me, I know how to navigate from the working girls and the regular girls. Once you've partied in Nigeria you know how to spot who is who. I definitely do plan on mingling in either place I decide to go to :takedat:.

Nairobi traffic is probably on par with Lagos traffic so I'm unfazed.

As per the :mjpls:, when I worked in Cambodia I saw that thing first hand. A bouncer asked me if I was Nigerian. Dude said they didn't allow Nigerians into the club. My people have a mixed repuation over seas. Never really been a problem for me. A lot of people don't know I'm Nigerian until I hang around my people. Code switiching I guess.

If I picked SA, for the trip, would it be worthwhile to bounce between the big 3 or is Jozi just fine. In SA I would more so care to just relax, mingle and party. Get a nice Airbnb downtown and check out the sites. Which of the big 3 have more black people or will it not matter? Bouncing around stretches the money I spend on travel and not on actual activities so in SA I'd like to be in the city where I get the most bang for my buck.

From my research I think I'd be pretty set with my plan for Nairobi. I wouldn't head to Mombassa so at least I know everything will be within Nairobi.

So the big question I got for you is for a 14 day trip, would it be good to do both Nairobi and Jozi? Start off in Jozi for a week and then fly to Kenya (visa free), then return to Jozi and head back.

Thanks again breh.

Also, I aint with the Safari stuff.

if you got a full 2 weeks that would definitely be much more feasible especially if you're willing to skip other cities like Mombasa. 1 week in each country. That would be the GOAT birthday trip :banderas:

Which of the big 3 have more black people or will it not matter?
Joburg then Durban got the most blacks, but it's SA breh. blacks are everywhere

most bang for your buck is Cape Town. it has more nice 'touristy' things to see than other 2. table top mountain, beachfront, etc. I look at the cities this way

Joburg = NYC feel
Cape Town = rich LA feel
Durban = little Miami feel

tho cape town gives most bang for buck (beaches, things to see, nightlife, etc.). Jozi is nice, but you would miss out on beaches being inland if you care about that stuff. Jozi got best nightlife out the 3 tho. CT has everything, but it's just a little bit too European for my tastes. a lot of old rich white folk who come to retire and live on the coast. and I met some "I'm not black. I'm coloured :mjpls:". CT got nice looking beaches but water is always cold so nobody really swim there. Durban is the opposite. much warmer being on the indian ocean and most importantly got the Golden Mile strip. shyt is :whew:. reminded me of a low key Miami. one of my trips I want to do this year is go back to Durban for the spring break. Parties on 1000 like this:

@Cape Town JHB our fellow coli breh phcitywarrior wants to come visit your city and country. drop some game for the young breh.
@Lucky_Lefty breh from the states spent a whole year out there
@Rayzah visited recently as well

what yall think?

you good with this plan. catch a kenyan airways nonstop flight from Jozi or even a Ethiopian airways flight for the low if you willing to do layover in Addis abba
