5-film Blu-ray came in today so I’m gonna try to do the same. The last time I watched these shyts was with commercial breaks and edits, which really defeats the whole purpose now that I look back at it.

I haven't revisited any of these joints in a long time either. I completely forgot about the MC death-proofing a cabin and escaping the police by rowboat, but it's the funniest sequence in the original

I started my Final Destination marathon with the original:



Total Aside: But this is such a good trailer. It conveys the plot but doesn't give away any of the major kill scenes or developments.

Thoughts:
The genius of Final Destination is that it's like an American Slasher meets a Japanese Curse film. You get the teen group of friends picked off one by one while the MC tries to figure out how to survive. But instead of a killer, you get a supernatural force with a set of rules like the Grudge or the Ring.

A brief rant about Tony Todd's greatness:

I think the lynchpin of the movie is Tony Todd. His speech characterizes Death in a way that makes it feel like a conscious being. It adds way more tension to every kill-scene setup. I know Todd's a legend just from Candyman, but this Final Destination speech is incredible in its own right, and the creators most have known. He's a big part of the trailer and reprises his role in the sequel. He got one scene and still came across as the star.

The other thing that makes the movie elite is the quality of the kill scenes. They're over the top, full of misdirects, and feel like they could be avoided if the characters just make the right choices...it's the Saw Traps before Jigsaw ever existed.

The cast is also pretty elite. This has a bunch of familiar faces, performing some pretty overdramatic dialogue in the best straight-faced way possible. It adds some camp vibes and humor to a plot that otherwise should be super dark. There's no wonder it's a cult-classic.

As someone who always associates Sean William Scott as Stiffler and with this coming right off of American Pie, it surprised me to see him play a character who’s…fairly innocent? Not cocky at all. A little naive, but his heart’s in the right place. The Jets still ain’t win a Super Bowl though, so he hasn’t missed much. You could argue he got off easier than most Jets fans. Lmao.

Yeah, the cast dynamics are so good with this one. Every character is memorable IMO, whereas the sequels had more expendables thrown in to pad the numbers.

Stifler gets all the funniest lines, Sean William Scott was really on a tear as a comedic performer. Devon Sawa too, with Idle Hands and Final Destination hitting; he had debatable scream king status...probably needed another movie or two to solidify it though.

Sidenote: How did I never realize these were James Wong movies!? Millenium is a criminally underrated series, I should revisit.

Seems like the horror community has rallied around him as royalty for the genre, so that's cool. I'll add Idle Hands to the list, FD's the only horror property sans Chucky I've watched him in.

Hannibal got right up to the most iconic moment of the series and then cut off. It's a damned shame!

Millenium was legitimately elite stuff for the first couple seasons. I liked it more than X-Files which was also flames. I'm sorta surprised it never got a reboot.

Wong had writing credits on a lot of dopeness, but mainly on the tv side that I recall.

Idle Hands was a favorite of mine growing up. That movie started my Jessica Alba love. If you can appreciate what Devon Sawa does in Final Destination, he takes that up a notch for Idle Hands and it's great...or at least it was when I was younger. I haven't watched it in a really long time.
