I really liked Companion, though it did have some derivative vibes, everything worked. It has a twisted sense of humor, but actually lands the jokes and it sprinkles in some nice twists even if they are easy to spot.

The cast is stacked and lives up to their roles. The plot pairs up two of the newer tropes of horror, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. But it's not "scary" horror, it's more of a very dark comedy. I'd watch the movie before reading on, because I think the less you know, the better.

The "nice guy who isn't what he seems" trope has been around for a long time, but it's exploded recently. We got Barbarian which plays on the trope twice; Blink Twice which lives in that trope; and Fresh, which I think handles the trope best of all. We're also getting increasing amounts of technological horror. This movie takes those two tropes and mashes them up for something unique.

My big complaint is that I saw each major reveal a mile away. But I think that may have been intended, because the dialogue and characters don't do anything to hide it. I LIKE that honesty. Sometimes, directors and writers will try to "hide" the reveal and it makes the plot feel sloppy or forced. This movie just tells its story, and if you catch on sooner or later, it should still hit.

Anyway, this joint was good. My one complaint is the final bits of action start to drag a little in order to shoehorn in some added tension. But it's a minor quibble because this movie had a bunch of humors that made me react (which could be me going "holy crap" or me laughing at the ridiculous conversation unfolding). It's another good one to start 2025, and omg my hopes are getting up for this year.

I kept this one to a teaser trailer watch only and had a really good time with it. Quaid always gets cast in these kind of roles because he’s just that damn good in them.

The big reveal of the story that I keep seeing touted as such on the net didn’t come across as one to me because I thought the flick was damn near hitting me across the head with some breadcrumbs earlier on. It’s not something that I hold against the film though because I still had a fun ass time overall.

There was something uncanny about Thatcher from the very first moment I saw her. Credit to her acting, too, but she definitely didn’t come across someone who I would confidently say is a human and that was where the light bulb came on for me as far as where the rest of the story would go. The twist that got me real good though was Patrick. That shyt was priceless.

Whoever the actress was that played Kat was :noah:

Funnily enough, and I know they share the same team, this makes for a nice companion flick with Barbarian. A double feature featuring two leads who think the system is rigged against “nice guys” like them. :skip:

Yeah, the big reveal felt telegraphed to me, but not in a way that hurt the movie. There were other clever twists and turns that kept the plot shifting in ways I wasn't fully expecting. I really liked the humor they had about everything. It definitely would pair perfectly with Barbarian.

Sorority house Massacre (1986)
Slasher

the movie ripped off Halloween and to some extent a Nightmare on Elm street
its a competent slasher , hitting all the tropes, but the killer is just...........boring
if you are an 80's slasher fan, its worth a watch , but you are not missing anything if you don't

Sorority house Massacre 2 (1990)
Supernatural/Slasher/comedy

Sequel in name only
the "sorority" sisters must have been going for their doctorates, because the youngest one looked at least 30
its actually a horrible film, but with so much fukkery going on, its actually enjoyable to watch
Oh and for the JBO Brehs, more PAWGS in this one :russ:

the acting is one step below Porn

Demonic Toys Series Watch thru (8 films - I did not realize there were that many of these)

Demonic Toys (1992)

Full Moon classic.
enough fukkery to carry the flick. surprisingly more violent than i though it would be
Sets up the lore and the main characters just fall into an impossible situation
its a goofy horror flick just not enough spirit , as say a Killer Klowns form outer space has.
The Toypocalypse is upon us

Dollman vs demonic toys (1993)

1993- indirect sequel 3 Full Moon flicks Demonic toys, Dollman & Bad Channels

Surprisingly, one of the better entries in the series
Never taking itself seriously
Got that Tim Thomerson Stimi
It tries to add to the lore of the Demonic toys, but they go out like the Cenobites in Hellraiser 2
Side Note: my wife walked by while I was watchin and said you would literally need to be a foot tall to be scared of the toys

Puppetmaster vs Demonic Toys (2004)

it has a Corey Feldman Stimi
Basically a syfy channel flick , more of a puppet master flick than anything
the toys do provide some fukkery though
one of the more entertaining films in the series

Demonic Toys 2 Personal Demons (2010)

The true direct sequel to Demonic toys 1

New Full Moon
what can I say , more flash than substance - filmed overseas
this film could have been..... better , leans more on the comedy
Updates the Lore - again with a new toy , but its pretty much wash, rinse & repeat

Demonic Toys: Jack Attack (2023)

only focused on the Jack in the box character-
its actually Decent, updates the lore again
this one is very bloody too.

Baby oopsie Series - form the Demonic Toys Universe

Baby Oopsie (2021)
Baby Ooopsie - Murder Dolls (2022)
Baby Oopsie - burn, baby burn (2023)

these were actually shorts that form a movie trilogy
they are actually good, decent FX , good plot
i hate they used different toys from the original series for the Toy Hell or toypocalypse
Its reminded me of Hellraiser 3 when Pinhead showed up with those Wish.com Cenobites

Would i watch the series again? probably not!
but its worth a watch if you are a full moon fan
or just want some fukkery to take your minds off everything else

May watch the Howling series or Phantasm next

I never realized the versus movies predate the direct sequel. As a die hard Puppet Master stan, I remember all the VHS and DVD's advertising the Demonic Toys stuff. But it's a series I broadly slept on as if Puppet Master fandom vs Demonic Toys fandom was on some SEGA vs SNES tip (for the youth, that's Xbox vs Playstation).

I also had no clue that they were releasing newer iterations about the most famous toys. I recall Puppet Master did something similar with Blade, but the Demonic Toys got two characters into spin-offs. It's pretty wild. Full Moon needs a true documentary, because it's run is impressive and I don't feel like you could ever catch lightning in a bottle like that again.

Had off work today, and used the time to start a Final Destination Marathon. It's only five movies, and the first couple are certified classics. I'll track my thoughts through the series. :salute:
5-film Blu-ray came in today so I’m gonna try to do the same. The last time I watched these shyts was with commercial breaks and edits, which really defeats the whole purpose now that I look back at it. :russ:
