Here's the part with QT talking abut Zombie's Halloween movies:

The thing is now, I am a big fan of the Rob Zombie Halloweens,” Tarantino explained. “When I saw the first one, I didn’t like it at all. I didn’t like the aesthetic. I didn’t like everything that he added to it and then the last hour just becomes this fast forward remake of the first one. What the fukk is all this shyt? Eight months later, I watched it on video … and I really liked them once I got all the preconceptions out of my head. That kid [Daeg Faerch] is really good. I mean, what did I think Rob Zombie was going to do with it? Do I want him to do something else? I like his Sam Peckinpah aesthetic. So, now that I didn’t have a bug up my ass about it, I was actually able to appreciate it. And again, it’s that kid who got me into it, and Danielle Harris is fantastic.

He added, “And then the second one is really great because it completely can now go on its own.”

I can understand him not liking it and then re-watching it later and having a more favorable opinion since I have had that experience with some movies myself. However, I can say my loathing of RZ's Halloween movies had nothing to do with preconceived notions or even my love for the Carpenter original...I just think Zombie made horrible artistic choices from start to finish and then doubled down on those horrible choices when it came time to make H2.

I do agree that Danielle Harris was good in both movies though.

If I'm not mistaken they had serious budget and time constraints that held it back. I really loved this one even with the flaws, tons of potential and you could tell they cared about what they were making from performances to cinematography.
I see, sucks they were hindered by that.

I agree and will definitely watch Lobo’s next feature after the strength of this one’s qualities. Gotta love a writer/director who does their own editing too.

This is interesting ! I never would have made the connection.
“but he has ultimately come around to digging Rob Zombie’s unique vision for the franchise.”
I get it . Because they both have that “mad scientist unfiltered”
type of vibe to their movies. Not the “dirty grunge” Jello calls it bc that would imply they both lack depth and creativity.
QT extra wrong :ohhh::hhh:

Was watching a review of The Black Mountain Side and the host mentioned the fact that this like the Thing was an all male group who were isolated. I Wondered how the Thing would have turned out if the entire outpost were female? Anyone have an idea?

It would definitely be a different energy. I know carpenter said he intentionally wanted it to be an all male cast because of the energy and vibe and the bleakness. An all female version of that would be interesting because it would be really different.

Might have some of the same paranoia but it would be a different type of paranoia. Definitely wouldn’t have people competing to be in charge and measuring their dikks.

I found an interview with him that covers it. He basically liquidated all his savings to make the movie and they filmed it in 9 days with no story boards (super interesting approach to the whole storytelling process with him). This dude couldn't get his break, so he just went for it and I really enjoyed the result.

My own inclination would be to grab a female co-writer at a minimum to tackle that. My first idea would be to shift the paranoia to more of a learned helplessness angle but I wouldn't want that to build into something condescending.
