I LOVED how they played out the dynamic between the two. I'm curious if any book readers can speak on how their interactions were covered in the early portion of the book. I'd be curious if his recovery from addiction and her presence as a support from afar got explored at all...

Also, the way that little girl played the possession scene was great. I feel like child actors have gotten better this era.
From what my homegirl told me, they actually are related in the book and she really is his uncle. And her dying grandmother has more to do with their relationship as well. Didn’t play on much of his recovery since he was already damn near fully recovered by the time they met, much like in the movie.

I would say this was the movie of the year for me but not as a horror. It felt more like Dark Fantasy.

I would dap this post.
But i dont know a DAMN thing about Star Wars.
Lol

The Shining = The Force

The overlap in abilities between the Shining and the Force is damn near exact in some cases, there's even Force Ghosts that provide advice and further mentorship from the grave.

@cac poster its official, Dr. Sleep is in my number 1 spot!!! That movie was executed to perfection - consistent timeline, story line, plot, no overdone jump scares. That little girl hit the mark with her role. Wowwwww, she was really good. Perfect on screen chemistry and believable. Best movie I’ve seen all year, no debate.

Disliked that they did his friend like that though!!! For him to go out like he did after they located the Steamers. The child abduction scene was hard to watch. They could have scaled that back. I have a son maynnnneeee :mjcry:
I had to fast forward that scene, never seen a kid done so graphically , that will stay in my head. Sadistic . Other than that, excellent movie. I know I need to rewatch bc I’m sure that I missed a few subtle references.
Nice, didn’t read this whole thing cause I don’t wanna spoil anything. Will report back when I eventually watch it.

I watched “I Trapped the Devil” on Friday night. Great in atmosphere and overall idea, a little choppy in execution... some of the time felt too stretched without much action, and I would have loved more scenes of conversation with the entity behind the door cause the movie captured the other-worldliness feeling in the basement very well. Overall it’s one of the better horrors I’ve seen this year, could have been the best with a bit more meat on its bones.

Glad you love it. That shyt is excellent. And that child scene is the thing I talked about weeks ago when I said horror needs to remain subversive and that scene rubbed some people the wrong way. I know why it did and I get it, but the best horror is the shyt that sticks with us and I haven’t forgotten that scene at all

In the book jack torrance had an affair with abra’s grandma so Danny and abra’s mom are half siblings. There’s a lot in the book that just couldn’t first into the movie because of run time or the changes that were made from the shining movie from the shining book. I’d highly recommend everyone read the 2 books. I’ve said it a few times but knowing the original story gave me such a huge appreciation for this movie. It’s great without knowing anything about the books, but knowing the book story takes it to a whole other level

What's everyone's favorite Horror sub-genre?

For me it's lovecraftian/cosmic horror.
Just watch a movie called The Borderlands @hex this one's for you, heavy Lovecraft influence.
Speaking of Lovecraft:

COLOR OUT OF SPACE

FumFi3j.jpg

After a meteorite lands in the front yard of their farm, Nathan Gardner and his family find themselves battling a mutant extraterrestrial organism that infects their minds and bodies, transforming their quiet rural life into a technicolor nightmare.
Based on "The Colour Out of Space"; by H. P. Lovecraft.

If I'm not mistaken they had serious budget and time constraints that held it back. I really loved this one even with the flaws, tons of potential and you could tell they cared about what they were making from performances to cinematography.
