Understandable. I felt that way about captain marvel . I'd like to know your thoughts.
I'll admit suffer from mild anti-feminist tendencies. Didn't stop me from enjoying CM though I rolled my eyes at some scenes. I'm also sure the reviews panning the film are by a$$holes who haven't seen the movie or went in to hate.

What did you think about it?
It wasn't really a horror movie to me. I would compare it more to frighteners. Solid story, great cast, slow pacing and black excellence. I love the cast and the storytelling is dope. I may have to give it a 7/10 as well but I was high off this kush straight from Jamaica and drunk off Appleton so I need to give it a second watch.

I love Brie Larson as an actress but they might have went a bit far with the feminist angle. Marvell should've been a male and then Carol still would've played a crucial character.

Doctor Strange threw me off the same way with making the ancient one a white woman. Some things just don't need to be changed.

Back to captain marvel. That no doubt song during the fight scene was terrible. They could've chose a song from straight line stitch or paramore to give Carol a badass score.

My issues with captain marvel had everything to do with the direction and not the characters. Loved the characters. I just think Brie and that character deserves a better movie lol. The directors just let them down. It’s not an awful flick by any means but it’s just very average and middle of the road despite the best efforts of everyone in front of the camera

right. Carpenter for my money is the greatest American horror director ever. And he’s always been more polished than Craven and more consistent. Doesn’t mean Craven is bad at all. Clearly he’s not. But I’ll take the thing, Halloween, prince of darkness, Christine, in the mouth of madness, and the fog over most of Cravens catalog outside of scream and nightmare
I enjoyed CM. I think Marvel kinda phone it In on all movies not named the Avengers or Spider-Man (I hope Black Widow gets done justice though.)

You know me Lovecraft is my wave and Carpenter does that well.

You know me, I'm not with this hyper-feminist "woke" culture intersectionality wave that has become the new trend these days or that seeks to replace traditional roles. I'm not one to support the usurping of male roles or emasculating of men. But I know how critics whitewash movies and don't give minority actors a fair shake in certain genres anyway. So I will be going into BC with this in mind. I have read both sides of the reviews, so we shall see.

I didn't see a bunch of man hating feminism in CM. I like Carol as Cap. I also think they didn't fall too much into the trap of, hey she's super powerful outta nowhere. Yon Rogg washed her up in the opening.

:ohhh: I haven't seen Captain Marvel yet, might have to check this out.
Last movie that I saw within the franchise was Avengers:Endgame and that was about 2 months ago.

Yeah that last part is what gets me about the movie. The directorial choices. Why give her that song there when it would have no emotional impact for her? Yes it’s a 90s song but so what?

Here’s the best example of my issue with that movie and again, nothing to do with the actors or even the story. I love both and think Brie is dope.

Carol is a Guns N Roses fan right? Right. They show us that. She’s got the tee shirt and a ticket stub. She left earth in the mid 80s. So why is Come As You Are by Nirvana playing when we go in her head in act 3? It makes no sense. It’s using the 90s as a signpost rather than mining any true emotional connections to it. Contrast that with how James Gunn uses music in the guardians movies

You read my mind. James Gunn is the perfect example of incorporating great music that fits the mood. Out of the entire Marvel cinematic universe, I can watch Guardians of the Galaxy over and over because of the music. A lot of great directors use great music.
