I feel like they could have had less verbal explanation about the backstory and it would have served the movie better overall, but obviously this was meant to be as accessible as possible.
Shadow-lupita’s whole diatribe at the chalkboard was too much explanation imo, opened up questions that would have been better off untouched
Some of the build-ups sucked to me too, ie. The daughter chase and the “she’s on top of the car” thing fell totally flat to me.
I did enjoy the uniqueness of it which is a lot to say in the mainstream horror market today. I’ll take ten of these over one Hereditary. It reminded me a lot of “They Live!” with a slightly different angle. Both feel like comments on the same era of American culture

You know damn well these award committees don’t pay any attention to horror. The mom from hereditary should’ve at least got a nomination last year. Finally checked out Us last night and enjoyed the hell out of it. I need one or two more movies from Peele just to go full auteur study on him because he has his own style and you know it's his movie out the gate. There's a lot I wanna go back and rewatch to form full opinions on with meaning, just reflecting on it...there's a LOT to unpack. But what's dope is that he packed all of that symbolism in a movie with that much tension and horror. I do co-sign @cac poster that the exposition at the end dragged a little, thought the pacing was on point for most of the rest. Lupita Nyong'o needs to win some awards for her performance.
