I haven't watched Them to compare, but after checking the trailer out I'm adding it to my horror list for checking out.

“Them” is definitely worth the watch. I thought the French - subtitles would be distracting but they weren’t. Think of “the strangers” meshed with the thriller film- “funny games” , if you’ve seen those. The psychological torture and doom type movie.

I need to finish this. It was on Amazon Prime for the longest and I feel like I missed out now

If you've got Shudder, Joe Bob Briggs is making a comeback tomorrow night for Friday the 13th with a drive in marathon. I will be watching:whew:
I have my Shudder subscription now... rewatched Them (Ils) on there. You were right.. there are some gems in there. Who’s Joe Bob? I’ve been watching movies off there. Haven’t had a chance to check out the series and specials yet.

And tommorow is Friday the 13th.... ! :lupe: (Im going to work then coming home and staying in the house for the rest of the night. I’m suspicious..yes)

You don't remember Joe Bob? Back in the 80s and 90s, he used to host a cult tv show on Showtime and then TNT. On TNT it was called "MonsterVision" and he'd show horror, sci-fi, and very cultish flicks while dropping trivia about them and having guest come over and watch the movies

Here's part of his Big Trouble in Little China episode

And it's on there???!!! Bet, putting it on my list

You should.. i first heard about it on IMDB before they phased out their discussion boards, people were saying that Them was better than Strangers. I went into with low expectations (like French horror, this can’t be that scary *rolls eyes) but by the end I was on some..

Yeah that's why I started watching it. But I think I was in the middle of something and you can't just have some shyt on with subtitles while doing other things.

This show looks familiar.

That reminds me - Do you remember USA Saturday Nightmares on the USA network? And Up All Night? Then there was some other show hosted by Elvira, I think it was the same. USA Network had the horror game locked down... lol.

RT 87% IMDB 6.2

[Rec] was fantastic so seeing the director made this and it being based on "true events" I was looking forward to finally watching this. It seemed to have all the pieces to deliver a great film. Unfortunately for me it just never came together. The whole film just comes off perfunctory. It hits all the beats but it never rises above them. The only thing I left thinking was wow, that girl sure can open her mouth wide. It just never gains any momentum during its run time. I found myself bored instead of engrossed. For a film based on something fascinating it has zero imagination to bring it to life. That's not to say the film is horrible or anything,I could see some enjoying more than I. End of the day it's a run of the mill teen possession movie no different than something you'd find dumped into theatres in January.

It's strange how comedy and horror are on almost opposite sides of the spectrum and yet as a genre horror comedy works so damn well. I had huge luck last time in this subgenre as all the films I watched I loved so even though this one didn't look appealing I figured I'd give it a shot.

And maybe it's because my expectations were rock bottom but I'm glad I did. Not to say this is some hidden gem but I did get some mileage out of it. At its core it's an omen parody. And how cheesy they made that concept look had always put me off pressing play. And frankly the kid is the worst aspect of the film. He's not a good actor and the effects used seem pretty corny. But the films strength is just being a film about being a step father. The devil child is Evangeline Lilly's,and Adam Scott is the new step father. There's some really funny stuff there with Adam going to a support group for step fathers and trying to bond with the step sons. It plays around with that and has a lot of fun with it. Every step father describing their step son as a spawn of Satan but the kid actually being one. Sally field has a role in this as well with one scene in particular I won't spoil with her that had me laughing pretty hard.

It's frustrating because they have the concept with step fathers right there and it's brilliant but the film as a whole never quite comes together. It's just never quite witty enough, never gets the horror part right. But it does have just enough to make it somewhat charming.

it's strange to go into a film with low expectations because you think it looks terrible but then leave frustrated at them squandering so much potential. It's worth checking out if you love the sub genre.

Yup remember all of that. Also USA Up All Night, which would show horror every now and then. Those horror flicks didn't cost much to buy and they could run them when they didn't have programming. Same thing TBS did with the three stooges. I miss them days

I’m always apprehensive about comedy horror, have the thoughts that I don’t want to laugh, I want to be scared, lol. the only workable movie that I saw with that sub genre was Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.

Little Evil- I didn’t have the patience for it. I went into it annoyed after watching the little boy and couldn’t get past it. I tried to give it a chance.

I think the first time I saw Chopping Mall was on USA Up All Night.
Made me run out to the Blockbuster to get the unedited version.
I love that horrible movie.

I love comedy-horror but it has to be the type of comedy horror where there is a turn at one point in the movie where the horror kinda drops a lot of the comedy and shyt gets real.
Movies like Return of the Living Dead and Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon did that balance really well.
