Just dropped on Shudder. On my weekend watch list.

]

anyone hre seen this? good or bad?

This shyt was good! It really does have some similar themes and vibes to the Substance, but it's different in a lot of ways. The performances don't really get to flex until the second half, but a few actresses really kill it!

It starts a bit slower, but it progresses to a fast-paced, tension-filled run with some genuine body-horror scenes as opposed to the more comedic tone that the Substance carried. I spent the first couple of months in 2024 wondering where the good horror movies were. This year, I've already found one that I really like.

I feel the same although I probably didn't like it as much as you.

To be fair my recent watches were The Substance, Re-Animator, and Arcadian(Didn't like this but thought the creature designs were refreshing).

I think the trailer hyped me up because it said it was Re-Animator meets Mean Girls. To me it seemed more like

May minus the charm meets Face Off. I actually never thought of a Horror movie version of Face Off although it makes sense. I guess Darkman is close. I want to rewatch that franchise now.

New Zealand Anya Taylor Joy was hot tho. Still better than the movies at the start of last year. Way better than Night Swim and probably better than Night Shift.

Yeah, I don't like the Re-Animator meets Mean Girls comp at all. Especially when the best parts of Grafted feel closer to other horror movies. I think a big part of my enjoyment was all the easter eggs. They do little visual homages to movies like Black Christmas, TCM, and a few others I'm forgetting off the top of my head. That kinda stuff is great when it doesn't disrupt the narrative and works with it instead.

May meets Face/Off is a really good comparison. To keep it horror, I'd say May meets Popcorn. But either way, it works! [/SPOILER
