West where the Sunsets
jason goes to hell is the worst friday in the franchise. The only good things are duke, evil dead ref, the intro, ending, and freddy tease.

fukk everything else about that movie.
The last line had me :dead:

Duke was a character I wanted to see more of. Maybe because I kinda zoned out, but it seemed like he didn’t have much screen time for such an important character.

Very interesting to see an article on BD where the writer tries to praise the movie.

Last night was Friday the 13th so naturally we watched 'Friday the 13th' but the 2009 remake. I had seen this before but this time we watched what they are calling the Killer Cut. I looked at the run times and it's about 8 minutes longer. There's a couple brutal kills in this but I couldn't figure out what was different from the theatrical version. I think the sex scenes were a little longer maybe. I liked this more the first time I watched it probably because I was ready for a new entry at that point. I do like all the little callbacks and Easter Eggs in here but otherwise it's pretty standard and by the numbers.

I co-sign that article. It's got elite opening and closing sequences (not just the Jason scene; I include everything up through the heart-eating), one of the best new characters in the Duke, and tries to do something completely different. It's the Season of the Witch of the Friday franchise.

A Villa Straylight.
I watched some anime movies over the weekend. Looking to get into Wicked City, Demon City Shinjuku, and Perfect Blue this week. Madhouse looks like they've been on their shyt:whoo:

Vampire Hunter D(1985)
Vampire_Hunter_D_OVA_poster.jpg

This was one of the first anime anythings I ever watched as a kid. Back in the day the Sci-fi channel played this and Akira all the time. The movie was alright but I don't think it holds up over the years. A major plot point is that all the antagonist keep trying to get in this one girl's pants. The creature designs are still incredible.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust(2000)

I rewatched this for the first time since it came out. This was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. I wish they still made R Rated action horror movies like this. This shyt was cinematic. I won't wait 24 years to see this again.

It was crazy I immediately recognized Pamela Aldon's voice as Leila after seeing her in some tv shows. The Gate 2 was pretty wild. I still like the first one more though.

Highlander: The Search for Vengeance(2007)

Yea this isn't horror but I don't care. This shyt was fire too. They finally made a good Highlander sequel. Some plot points I didn't like but the action and story were there for the most part. Again wish I could see live action movies like this. Highlander could also work like a video game. The story in this reminded me a little of Assassin's Creed where you got stuff going on in the past and the future. If they make it like Dark Souls or Devil May Cry when you get stronger and learn new attacks with each quickening you take:banderas:

aight I did watch a real horror movie:lolbron:

The Suckling (1990)

Interesting concept of going to a whorehouse to get an abortion and the fetus becoming a monster to kill everyone. This could be remade today since abortion horror seems to be popping off. This is more fukkery than trying to really send a message. Much more like a Hellenhottor film than anything else, but that might just be the independent movie style of the time. There's a lot of actors that aren't Hollywood in this, and I always appreciate that. At the same time some of the acting was:mjlol:

It was alright. I really liked the creature design though.
You should checkout Cyber City Oedo 808. Peak sci-fi horror.

I feel like I may have appreciated Heretic more if I hadn't seen the trailer and some merch related to the movie. It really cut into the tension of the first third of the film, and I feel like that's probably the best section of the movie.

Two young religious women are drawn into a game of cat-and-mouse in the house of a strange man.

It's a movie that explores belief and manipulation through a combination of "tests" and discussions between Hugh Grant and the two girls, played by Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East. Unfortunately, I had trouble suspending my disbelief between some really poor decisions by characters and an overly elaborate setup. I found myself thinking this guy coulda just started a podcast or a YouTube channel, when the movie is meant to make you reflect on belief systems and their relationship with marketing.

Usually I LOVE that sorta "could be pretentious" but always thoughtful approach. But this movie wasn't it for me. As a consolation, the performances are absolutely great and the movie's worth a watch just for that. But in terms of the things that make good horror for me, it didn't hit in my book.

I'm watching Red Rooms next.

They honestly should have cut a good amount of the ending. Took the movie to a truly unrealistic level. Up to that point you could reasonably suspend your critical thinking and logic.
I used to feel that way towards the ending on first watch, but now I love it. Flick was already moving batshyt insane well before the climax drove that absurdity even further.

The shock factor upon rewatch drops but I like seeing filmmakers go for it when it comes to showcasing how far a grotesque scenario can go.

Not a doubt in my mind that a studio like Universal would ultimately find a way to undercut Elizabeth’s tragic tale here.

Came for a cat and mouse thriller. Ended up getting a theology lecture instead. :francis:

I see why A24 picked it up though.

:mjlol: That's a perfect synopsis. I'll chalk the hype up to Hugh Grant playing against character and the clever way they handled the final girl. But it was a disappointment for me.

The Red Rooms on the other hand...I'll say more in a bit, but that's probably going in my top-5 of the year or higher. On initial scoring (I keep a chart because I'm weird like that), it's tied for highest rating of the year.

I’m glad you had a good time with Red Rooms, and I had a feeling you would. :myman:

One of the more satisfying blind watches of the year off the way it was able to bend my mind in a bunch of directions. Felt like Fincher with how cold it’s shot, but broodily paces itself like something you’d see from Oz Perkins. I owe @FlyRy some rep for that recommendation.

Story comes across pertinent to me today with the way some folks can obsess over true crime, and to the point where they make it their living in the day-to-day. Kelly Anne is such a complex character though. It’s cool that I still can’t pin down her motivations with exact confidence by the end of it. That can be a turn-off to some folks, but I’m fukking with it here.
