After a month off, I've been watching a lot of action/adventure and crime the last few weeks, I'm back...
First up, I had not seen this previously. 'Late Night with the Devil' (2023) was very good, very creepy. I loved the 70's late night talk show setting, they really nailed the aesthetic and all the little integral moving pieces that used to make those shows click. This was a wild ride and the ending had me like and it was such an interesting concept I'm surprised nobody had attempted this before. Very good.
It's hard for me to rate anything above it as my favorite horror of this year. I've already rewatched it a few times, showing friends.
Many critics shyt on 'Spiral' (2021) but will you hate me if I say I liked it? It's not as good as some of the movies in the 'Saw' franchise but the traps are fairly well designed and gruesome and the ending kept me guessing to how it would play out. I'm not sure what to think about Chris Rock as the lead, you don't normally see him in many dramatic roles. I think his facial hair was throwing me off too but he did ok. The script probably needed a rework but it's not the terrible movie to me that many said it was at time of release. The one thing I will say is the connections to 'Saw' are paper thin.
Decent list, some stuff listed too low and some too high. I’m happy to see Exhuma get love because I feel like it’s not talked about enough with this year’s best horrors.
Anyone seen or heard of the girl with the needle? It’s rated so high and the image looks striking. So I’m curious now.
Guess Ill watch late night next
Exhuma, horror movie of the year so far for me
