The ‘Smile 2’ marketing campaign begins.

The viral marketing for the 1st one was good. I didn't know the actress was Kevin Bacon's daughter, but she did good.

The movie was a combination of The Ring and It Follows but it was interesting all the way throughout. Only negatives for me was the final creature and the trailer giving away the best jumpscare in ages.

Me being psycho, I slo-mo'ed it through. Between 13 and 14 seconds of, for like one frame, there's an image of a woman with a really distressed face. I don't recognize her, and it looks like she's in the crowd. There's another still later on but it's just an unfamiliar landscape.

Yea that was cool with the rows of teeth. I was mainly talking about the tall old naked woman with saggy titties. That's a common monster in horror movies, and was just shown a couple weeks earlier in Barbarian.
Yeah, I feel you on that. The worst part is that it has the least scary smile in the movie. The teeth creature was a lifesaver.

If this ends up venturing where I think it will, Naomi Scott’s about to make the Astroworld concert mayhem look like child’s play in comparison. :picard:

I remember being a little underwhelmed at the monster reveal in ‘Barbarian’. Really hope that trend comes to a halt. Justin Long’s character was the fuel of the film for me by mid-way, more-so than the creature. His character was hilarious, yet despicable and I was really watching to see if he ever got his comeuppance or not.

But speaking of common monsters, I would’ve had a better time with ‘A Quiet Place’ if it wasn’t for ‘Stranger Things’. The design of the demogorgons look nearly identical to the monsters in the AQP franchise. You could make an argument of it stemming back to the Clickers from ‘The Last of Us’ too.

I don’t know who it is making the calls behind the scenes in Hollywood, but I feel like that whole look of an alien/monster has only become more synonymous these days and at least for me, it’s taking away from the spook factor.

I co-sign the character/creature designs as underwhelming and repetitive overall. The only compliment I'll give is that at least it makes unique creature designs stand out. The creature in the Ritual is dope to me, mainly because there's nothing like it. I just started Channel Zero season one, and the teeth creatures are awesome.

On that Barbarian note, I agree about Justin Long carrying the second half as a hateable character. I LOVE the first half of Barbarian, but that's all before the creature is revealed. I like it most when Georgina Campbell explores the empty house and hidden creepy rooms. Once the mystery let up, I'd probably check out mentally if not for actively rooting for Justin Long to get his just deserves.
