Ended up enjoying this a lot. Dug how it was an inversion of the typical possession story and the brooding atmosphere was among the best I’ve watched lately, comparable to Ti West’s style of filming. Story is a slow burn for sure but whenever it hits that accelerator, the movie does not shy away with its brutality. If anyone else knows of other films under a similar vein, please let me know.

Leaving the audience under the guise that both parts of the story were happening simultaneously made the later reveal a welcomed mindfukk.

I’ll say this though. Emma did her thing but they should’ve casted someone older to portray adult Kat. Her and Kiernan looked damn near the same age here. And if Kat and “Joan” are supposedly the same person, now I’m puzzled as to how Rose’s parents didn’t recognize the face of their own daughter’s killer. :martin:

ehh... my wife put this on my radar

Independent Comedy - Horror ( like 80/20 ratio of comedy to horroe)

I like to call movies like the IFC / Sundance sub genre of horror (LOTS & LOTS of talking)
Most likely a decent movie and will probably catch when it drops

Checked out a couple movies this week:

Candy Land
I loved this movie.
It was gritty, bloody, violent and grim yet also had a sweet charm to it.
I give 'Candy Land' 3.5 out of 4 Gun-Totin' Dr. Loomis'

There's Something Wrong With The Children
I enjoyed this one despite its flaws. I also thought there was something wrong with the creepy ass kids in this movie from the second they showed up on screen. I need to have a talk with someone involved with this movie about the character of Thomas though because I have so many questions.
I give 'There's Something Wrong With The Children' 3 out of 4 Gun-Totin' Dr. Loomis

Snow Falls
Absolute garbage. The idea that a bunch of aesthetically pleasant looking 20-somethings would go insane from hypothermia while being stuck in a big ass vacation home that lost power for like 24 hours is goofy as hell. Plus no one in this movie could act worth a damn.
I give 'Snow Falls' 0.5 out of 4 Gun-Totin' Dr. Loomis'

The Price We Pay
This one was OK. It's one of those "inspired by Hostel" types of movies only it's set on a fam in the American midwest and the sadistic crew is a weirdo family with an Australian grandpa, a naïve grandson and a giant grand-daughter who's ridiculous size is never explained by anyone in this damn movie.
I give 'The Price We Pay' 2.5 out 4 Gun Totin' Dr. Loomis'

Amber Alert
A found footage film that is basically 90 minutes of dumbass white people who don't know how to mind their business getting what usually happens to dumbass people who don't know how to mind their own business.
I give 'Amber Alert' 1 out of 4 Gun Totin' Dr. Loomis'

Crazy Tsunami brehs :russ:

decent Chinese creature feature, its a decent time waster and some good kills
almost the exact same plot as the Escape of Shark Movie I mentioned years ago
Tsunami happens, people get trapped with Killer animal, people die

not as much fukkery as Escape of Shark though
They had the shark performing Fast and Furious level fukkery stunts in that one :dead:

From the trailer it looks like they threw Bait and Crawl into a blender to come out with this movie.

watched that Skinamarink today

my initial reaction

after i had time to think about it

I felt just like Boosie after he ate that Popeye's chicken sandwich...people are out here lying on Skinamarink and I want to know why.
That movie is terrible from start to finish and all the talk about how it is full of foreboding atmosphere or like a waking nightmare is absolute bullshyt.

Bruh the reactions to The Seed might have been one of the most universally agreed upon movie opinions I think this thread has ever seen.

didn't say it was the greatest thing ever , just said it was decent .
its got a sci fi slant to it and I am a sucker for sci fi

I don't expect too much out of the majority horror nowadays.
can't remember where I said for the past 20 years all the new horror hits are

either repackaged plots
(Like Saw , is just like the movie Den that came out a few years before)
or borrow elements so heavy from other films its like you have seen them before
(Like Smile is the adopted child of It Follows which is the adopted child of Ringu , the base elements are there)
and these are great films, it just that the originality is harder to come by with so much stuff out there

as long as a horror movie keeps me semi interested and has some good kill sequences. I can find something to enjoy about it.

unless its one of those ultra low budget where it looks like it was literally filmed in my backyard, that i can't stand on.

also, during your sabbatical you may have missed one of my posts where I stated,

To paraphrase Juicy J:

You can say no to ratchet horror
Abominable1 can't :russ:

People are online actually bytching because Ghostface used a gun like there is a rulebook for what weapons horror movie slasher villains are allowed to use.

And this trailer has got my hopes up that Gale Weathers is going to be joining Dewey in The Upper Room.
Let's Gooooo!

THANK YOU!

risked Covid to see this bullshyt at the Alamo draft house off the strength of the weird a$$ trailer
I wanted to walk out after 30 minutes , but kept saying to myself , it can't be this bad , but it was.
Left the theater mad as fukk, my wife was laughing at me, I was complaining so much .

My cousin loves it, says its the atmosphere , man -
I was like what atmosphere, this movie was complete bullshyt. And i paid to see it.
he is also a Blair Witch fan, so that may have something to do with it.

Oh hell noooo - Tubi is bugging
:laff::palm:

Tubi will literally let anyone make a movie.

Tubi's new thriller, The Assistant, is set to premiere on the streaming platform on Friday, January 20, 2023. The film tells the story of a reputed doctor who struggles to manage her workload and decides to hire an assistant. However, things take a shocking turn from then.

As the doctor soon becomes obsessive, she risks everything in her life - including her career. The movie stars Erica Mena in the lead role, along with various others playing significant supporting roles.”

They dismissed the rest of the cast “various others”😭

Erica Mena as a doctor? :childplease:

Flex Alexander being lumped in with "various others"? :pachaha:

The movie being written by Marques Houston and Chris Stokes? :francis::dame:
