I watched Orphan and Orphan: First Kill

Orphan

This was a fun movie. I already knew the twist but enjoyed it a lot. The only thing I didn't like was the dad. Idk if he really is or he played the character that way but I had to google the actor to see if he was gay. I see hes married to Maggie Gyllenhaal so :manny: I don't care if hes gay or not but he wasn't convincing to me and was taking me out of the movie.

Orphan First Kill

I wasn't enjoying this one at all. I was watching like this is just basically the first movie with one little change. I don't know how they got Julia Stiles to be in this, she normally picks what to be in and doesn't do it for money. Then the twist came:mjgrin:. I was like ok now I see why Julia Stiles is in here. I liked that twist and how it changed the movie. I was with the movie until the credits rolled after the twist.

The Menu dropped on HBO Max fam. It's...weird. It wasn't what I expected based on the trailers. But I also found it darkly funny. There's a few movies to drop recently that give you unlikeable characters and it ruins the experience. But this one was a bunch of unlikeables and one relatable woman...and suddenly, I actually enjoyed the humor. I laughed hard as hell at the conclusion.

It's like this movie was giving me bizarro Ari Aster's Midsommar vibes BEFORE the big conclusion. I laughed out loud at the burger scene too. It's a pretentious movie, but it felt like they took it to the extreme in a sarcastic way that bodied me.

Might watch The Menu tonight. I wanted to watch Torn Hearts also but I had to take a break after the Orphan movies.
I really liked The Menu much more than I expected 7.5/10. They interspersed the social satire commentary with the horror elements very well in a way that it’s not pushed into our faces in every scene. And it didn’t come across corny or campy. Top horror movie starting off this year for me.

That movie was very dark with the hopelessness and non-substantive value of some people in society, even though it had comedic tones - think that I may need to give it a second watch bc I know that I missed certain references.

It's definitely an "everyone sucks" kinda movie. There's a whole "what is value" theme that's pretty cool discussion point. But I really like that they took it so over the top that it felt more like camp than a serious meditation. I was bouncing between annoyed and chuckling, but then the Burger scene sealed it for me. I want to watch it back again too, because I'm sure I missed some jokes. Even the recipes at the end were making me crack up.

Just watched that last night.

Really were a bunch of deplorable characters. But a good watch nevertheless.

DAMN - this New Evil Dead movie looks like its going to be great
Mask on... going back to the theater.

:banderas:

Yeah...this looks REALLY good!

Random Evil Dead holiday story: I had the evil dead trilogy on dvd when I was younger, and my niece somehow found it and put the dvd's on. For whatever reason, my little 4 year old niece decided it was her favorite movie and watched Evil Dead 2 NONSTOP. So all these years later, for Christmas she grabbed me a big hardcover graphic novel retelling of the Evil Dead movies. Super dope gift off a memory from almost 20 years ago.

Can’t believe they originally wanted this to stream exclusively on HBO Max. Nah, I need that phantom tracking shot on the Dolby screen. :hhh:

Possessed mothers going after their very own children is scary as shyt. Word to Toni Collette.

Ironman is actually posting here now?? Good seeing you in this thread. 🥳

Now that he’s jobless and Marvel has limited use for him now with the Phase 4 metaverse, multiverse or what have you…he joins us peasants 😞 🙃

Can you locate @Jello Biafra and @MartyMcFly for us? - we think they’re being held in captivity by Winter Soldierz 🥹
I've been in here woman :dead: :dead: :dead: I just lurk majority of the time:mjlol:
