Some ideas for each service:
Netflix - May the devil take you:
"When her estranged father falls into a mysterious coma, a young woman seeks answers at his old villa, where she and her stepsister uncover dark truths."
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8765496/

If you don't mind subtitles this is a Netflix horror that I think gets slept on some. It's not perfect, but it's a cool haunting type.

Hulu - The Wretched:
"A defiant teenage boy, struggling with his parents' imminent divorce, faces off with a thousand year-old witch, who is living beneath the skin of and posing as the woman next door."
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8305806/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

Good witch horror movie, doesn't exactly reinvent the genre but hits the tropes I like.

Shudder - Anything for Jackson
"A bereaved Satanist couple kidnap a pregnant woman so they can use an ancient spellbook to put their dead grandson's spirit into her unborn child but end up summoning more than they bargained for."
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12137964/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

I really enjoyed this joint. It's a reverse possession movie with cool haunt designs and a great sense of things getting further and further out of control.

Tubi - Pick a classic...Tubi's got some serious classics. I've watched the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Suspiria on it recently. My suggestion would be Hellraiser...since it's got two new versions in the works and is a far cry from where the sequels took it.
There’s a “May the Devil Take you TOO” streaming on shudder . (I guess it’s the sequel)

Reminds me of Funny Games but I haven’t finished watching the movie in its entirety yet.

Yeah, that trailer's uncomfortable from the jump. I'm looking forward to squirming through this one.

The first one was aggressive and nasty in all the right ways. Good looks for the find!

They filmed a prequel when the original movie is not being released until March 18th?!

I watched the preview trailer to “X” and I still don’t know what this is supposed to be about. But this is how trailers should be - short and enough to peak the curiosity.
That’s actually good. You’re better off going into the film with a fresh mind not knowing what any of it is about.

I just got done with it and wish I hadn’t watched a trailer. It was like an ode to the late 70s and early 80s grindhouse slaughterfest. Main thing I liked though was that the film had heart. I’ll be watching the prequel.

Curious about A24’s “secret” slasher flick - Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. Supposedly it made its debut at SXSW this week and the reviews have been glowing. They’re saying it’s like Lord of the Flies meets Mean Girls.

I feel like they gotta capitalize on a summer release here.

Fully agreed. They’re doing way too much with the 2-4 minute trailers these days.

Think I’m going to stop watching trailers and going to see IMDB reviews before I watch the movie if it’s not a specialized horror related reviewer in the actual genre with background. Bottom line, like you said most casual watchers/reviewers don’t understand the concept of “heart” or substance when it comes to this and don’t even give the movie a chance before writing up their opinions. Nowadays it’s better to go into these new release horror movies “cold” to see for yourself otherwise they overly hype or downplay it.

you dropping some heat. Daps and rep
All the movies and reccs that I dropped in here over time and I don’t even get this type of feedback. I even specifically watch movies bc you asked about them and come back to let you know at times. K. Nothing like feeling undervalued.

The “Coming Home to the Dark” movie- one of the most absolute shocking, sad and dark first 15-20 minutes of a movie that I’ve seen in a minute. I’ll finish watching tonight to see if the follow up is intense as the beginning. I’ll go as far to compare it to the scene in The Stranger with the
-“Why are you doing this to us”
- “Because you were home”
Violence for the sake of violence.

I had to legit pause and rewind on some “Did I just see what I thought happened” because it took me a minute to process.
Australian and New Zealand don’t have a heavy hand in the horror game but when they do - it’s always the most brutal moment possible. Like Wolf Creek. Pure savagery.

I'm not feeling "From" at all. I really enjoyed the trailer, so I had high hopes, but the acting and writing keeps pulling me out of the story. I just don't believe it and no one is acting in a believable way. Shame.

I'm so stoked for "X". Love the trailer. I have tickets for this Thursday's opening. I hope it is at least entertaining.

I hadn't heard of it, but it sounds really interesting. It's got a solid cast and it's written by the woman who wrote directed the Storm Drain segment of VHS 94
