its not garbage its much much improved since launch.

before it would take a minute or so for the video to buffer into a high quality(mines in a diff room than my router)..but now its instantly crystal clear

i mainly use it for play music and youtube. but i have used the netflix and pandora and hulu.

streaming movie from the browser thats a bluray rip is pretty much impossible(maybe it works if you're right in the same room as your router idk but its super choppy last i tried however maybe that it improved as well)

the dopest thing about it is anyone thats on your wifi network whether they have an iphone or android can easily cast to it just by a simple push of the button.

I'm not understanding the point of all this redundant tech...help me out

If you have a smart tv or a wi-fi DVD there is no point to chromecast right?

Can you multitask while using chromecast? Say you're streaming Netflix but want to open up angry birds or make a word doc, does chromecast keep streaming? If not, how is this any better than sacrificing your PC to connect it to the tv via a VGA/s-video/hdmi cord?

I assume there's really no point if you haves roku or other streaming device?

You can multitask though you'll need a decent connection.

Correct, but most smart tvs/wifi dvd players have terrible UI's and you gotta use a clunky controller. For chromecast, the controller is your phone/tablet.
Not to mention, Google's ecosystem baked in (Google Music, TV & Movies)

You can multitask. the Chromecast is not pulling media from your phone, it's pulling it straight from the content providers. Use your phone/tablet to press play, then go on texting/tweeting like normal while your stuff plays.

I was looking at the Roku, but alot of cable companies (Comcast) block access to HBOGo on the Roku. Plus the Chromecast only costs $35 and came with 3 months of free netflix at the time.

Chromecast is still in Beta to be honest, it'll be more mainstream in 2014 as more apps come out for it, but it already has the heavy hitters. (Youtube, Netflix, HBOGo, Pandora, Hulu).

Chromecast is also compatible with Iphones/Ipads.

Thanks y'all, seems like something I'd get the parents as I have a smart tv and while the ui sucks, it's simple and I don't play music through my tv....wireless sound system FTW

Uhhh.....the purpose is to stream for the ipad to the TV. Obviously she has netflix on the ipad, the chromecast allows her to cast it on here television instead of watching on the tablet.

I have hbogo on my roku but the real reason I dislike the chromecast is because I bought it so that I could stream movies from the chrome browser onto my tv...but that shyt is forever glitchy or slow.

Yeah, it is slow. I dont think it was meant for video and audio, but a simple way to mirror your screen. The processor in the chromecast aint fast enough to do that stutter free.

That's what I need something that allows me to stream from my browser or use the device to stream on my tv.

For what I use it for (netflix/pandora/youtube) it's still pretty dope. Worth the $35 I paid for it at least. Reserving judgement for its streaming capabilities when they get the streaming content rolling. I don't have high hopes for that end though.

lemme splain to yall nikkas in here as I am a techie. most of yall prob dont need a Chromecast. it is great for what it does and its price.

if you DONT have a smart tv but have smart devices such as iPads, phones, laptops, etc...then it could work out fine for you. I set up a couple from some relatives. they had 3 TVs in their home. One smart. Two dumb. :pachaha:
they are trying to cord-cut. so they can cast from their phones to the TVs.

interesting note....the software of the streaming services is coded into the firmware because all you have to do is start the movie, song, etc...then you can turn the device off or multitask with it. it only authenticates the service and the account, then it plays out. for instance....you can go to someone elses home and they may not have HBOGO, but have a Chromecast. You can cast from your account/device. You can start an episode of Sopranos on their set and leave the house and it will continue to play. Once it stops that episode...you would need to re-cast. So in that regard, you can take your Netflix/Chromecast over to your boo's for movie night if he/she has a set with HDMI. Kinda like takin DVDs over to the spot without having to lug so much shyt.

I have PS3 as a lot of you have...but its still missing some stuff like HBOGo. I have a Roku3. That handles everything. Thats what I would recommend to yall first and foremost. The best thing Chromecast can offer now is ability to cast from the Chrome Browser...which would be good for yall that like to watch movies ONLINE :ohhh: and I aint talmbout Netflix or Hulu. It does have HBOGo and Google Music (which is cool for those who have their sound system (speakers/soundbars) running through their TVs.

Other than that, Roku has it all....plus damn good porn too. :smugbiden:

feel free to ask any questions. I'm here for yall....:cape:
