The Chromecast is the tiny dongle that just keeps on giving. A mere couple of days after announcing support for a number of new applications, Google has let it be known that its $35 streamer is now compatible with Play Movies and Music on the desktop in a more native way. What this means is you will no longer have to rely on casting a Chrome tab to watch videos or listen to tunes ; instead, a Cast icon shows up within the Google Play web player and allows content to seamlessly be pushed to the device

I was thinking about getting one. I don't watch enough tv for me to get cable, but I have the wifi going and I like the idea of streaming to the tv.

You watch live-TV? Don't get it yet. But they are already confirmed to be coming.

You like to stream Google Play Music? HBO? Movies? Youtube? You watch Netflix? Pandora? Or any other music app?

Get the Chromecast.

If you wanna watch movies or music that you normally watch through the browser and not the apps. All you need to do is cast the Chrome browser itself through your laptop and you're set.

Yeah it's garbage I agree I've had one since they came out...it always disconnects from either of my laptops while I, streaming to the tv and it only plays apps that I already have on my roku....in fact roku is a better buy because you are able to live stream from a plex server.

IMO its not a bad device. I ended up giving mine to my wife so she can stream netflix from her iPad. If we have a party or something I'll hook it up to the TV to get Google Music going in the main room.

It's convenient but it hasn't changed my world. I read that it got plex yesterday so that should make it more robust.

I was talking about netflix app on iPadiPad

Uhhh.....the purpose is to stream for the ipad to the TV. Obviously she has netflix on the ipad, the chromecast allows her to cast it on here television instead of watching on the tablet.
