They're saying its self inflicted.. News being tight lipped about what happened too.. :mjpls:
I wonder if he may have been under investigation for something. But then again, he wouldn't have been allowed to patrol. I think. Not quite sure how that works.

They've been rotating state police from northern Illinois to the Chicago area.. Officer may have cracked and took his life.

How’s the south shore neighborhood? I’ve been there a few times. But how about buying property there? I’m mostly thinking about crime…currently living in bronzeville/Kenwood… south shore got some nice homes.

So apparently they arrested some crakkka who was randomly shooting at people on the expressway. There had been rumors of this for months but the racist media always focused on gangs

I wouldn't live there. The ONLY thing they have is lakefront access. Nothing else. No stores, no trains and no amenities.

A colleague of mine owned in South Shore. About 10 years ago, he had been trying to get out, thinking that the neighborhood was going to flip but it didn’t and he wasn’t seeing much housing appreciation.

I think right now what South Shore has going for it is the building of the Obama Library and the Tiger Woods linked project that is connecting South Shore and Jackson Park Golf Courses into one world class course. I know a couple of folks that stay in the Jackson Park Highlands and they are excited for the developments and think the neighborhood may see upward development. One thing I do know, 20 years ago the Highlands was all black. Now it’s about 45% white.

I like woodlawn better. its hyde park adjacent, close to the lakefront, and quickly gentrifying. plus it too is right by the obama library.

I know a truck driver who pocketed 400k by buying a building in Bronzeville 10 years ago

I live in south shore. Ole lady works with the south shore chamber of commerce and they’re definitely trying to revitalize the area. They’re starting on 79th where that movie studio is being built, offering grants to people who want to open up businesses.

A lot dilapidated homes are being bought up and flipped. Some buildings are getting revitalize but there’s a couple of issues slowing progress down in the area. The buildings off 71st and 72nd are the main problem areas tho. I live off 72nd and the areas with houses are fine.

Then a lot of those shytty empty buildings and store fronts along 71st by the metra are being sat on until that library, golf course ( which is still in the air ) and whatever else are done because owners are trying to maximize whatever gains they can get out of them instead of letting people lease / buy and invest in them now.

Values in the area are definitely trending up though. My crib is valued in the 400s vs mid 300s before covid.

Hi y’all, I am looking to buy a multi family property (4 units) in an area that they’re currently trying to gentrify. I plan on living there so I don’t want the neighborhood to be too bad. I plan on moving there next year or so. I have the cash but don’t have any credit yet,l and was told I can’t buy a house without it, so I need to build some. I am really only familiar with the Washington heights near evergreen/Beverly area and down town if that makes a difference.

Any suggestions on which neighborhood I should look in? I know I’ve seen some white and Asian people in Chatham and near Pullman, it’s crazy! Anywhere else though?

There are white people in the Pullman historic district. I live in Chatham right off the 87th street Dan ryan exit. It's fine over here, but there's a lot of riff Raff near the expressway at times. I've seen maybe 3 white families here in 6 years, so I wouldn't say it's gentrifying like that.

Depends on your budget. If you got it like that, Woodlawn area around the university. Students would be the best tenants, especially from UoC geeks. They ( the university) invest a lot into keeping that area together, plus they’re still expanding at a crazy ass rate.

Low end area still sketchy but prime location real estate that isn’t as “hot” as other areas but still worth looking into.

A lot of these areas are block to block tho, some blocks are peaceful and shyt never happens and some always have bs going on. If you buying property in the city, in a area you unfamiliar with, then you’ll have to do some ground work and make sure you’re going out and talking to your potential neighbors.

I would look at East Garfield Park, Washington Park, Woodlawn, and South Shore north of 71st.

Bronzeville is mostly nice, Kenwood, Woodlawn (east closer to the University is on the come up). I’m not super familiar with the west side, but Humbolt park is on the come up.oak park is nice and not being gentrified but a nice neighborhood nonetheless. .…but crossing (Austin blvd) changes the socio economics quickly.

Englewood is actually getting gentrified near the Whole Foods. I wouldn’t live there tho.

Washington park is a little spotty

Pilsen has become an up-and-coming part of town
