that's right where I live. I HATE having to go to jewel or chipotle simply due to that intersection.

I don't think its the worst intersection in the city. that title goes to milwaukee/north/damen in wicker park. fukking terrible.

That's a plus for you?

exactly. home ownership is the easiest way for most people to amass wealth. and if gentrifying is going to accelerate this, I'm all for it. that's what this is about. building wealth to pass on to your seeds eventually.

it shouldn't take a bunch of white people to move in for value to increase or for serious investment in our community.

A colleague of mine owned in South Shore. About 10 years ago, he had been trying to get out, thinking that the neighborhood was going to flip but it didn’t and he wasn’t seeing much housing appreciation.

I think right now what South Shore has going for it is the building of the Obama Library and the Tiger Woods linked project that is connecting South Shore and Jackson Park Golf Courses into one world class course. I know a couple of folks that stay in the Jackson Park Highlands and they are excited for the developments and think the neighborhood may see upward development. One thing I do know, 20 years ago the Highlands was all black. Now it’s about 45% white.

I live in south shore. Ole lady works with the south shore chamber of commerce and they’re definitely trying to revitalize the area. They’re starting on 79th where that movie studio is being built, offering grants to people who want to open up businesses.

A lot dilapidated homes are being bought up and flipped. Some buildings are getting revitalize but there’s a couple of issues slowing progress down in the area. The buildings off 71st and 72nd are the main problem areas tho. I live off 72nd and the areas with houses are fine.

Then a lot of those shytty empty buildings and store fronts along 71st by the metra are being sat on until that library, golf course ( which is still in the air ) and whatever else are done because owners are trying to maximize whatever gains they can get out of them instead of letting people lease / buy and invest in them now.

Values in the area are definitely trending up though. My crib is valued in the 400s vs mid 300s before covid.
