Dan Rafael chat wrap 10/7:
- Has not heard who Danny Garcia's opponent will be. It will not be Berto or Molina. Heard Cintron only through rumors and if that happens it is a disgrace. We are all tired of Danny Garcia doing tuneups.
- Danny Garcia vs. Granados? Who cares.
- One champion (belt) in one division, like the old days? Will never happen. At this point would be happy with just the 4 sanctioning body major belts with no interim, secondary belts.
- Thought Lampley's assessment of PBC was pretty good and was the view of most people, although there were a few small mistakes. If PBC gets their budget under control, makes quality fights, explains how they are positioning fighters and creates story lines, it can still have an impact. He is all for PBC to succeed on network TV, but wants quality matches, not the mismatches it has provided.
- GRJ is the poster boy for PBC's problems. He has no fan base, hasn't fought in his hometown, not a crowd pleaser, has fought one legit guy and lost, yet wants millions of dollars. Haymon has created a false sense of entitlement, coddling, matches with fraud opponents, and overpaid them.
- The WBO will rule October 20th on Fury's belt, the WBA has not set a timetable.
- Should Fury admitting he lied about his ankle injury to postpone the fight play a role in being stripped of his titles? Yes.
- Mikey Garcia might fight vs. Zlaticanin in December on Showtime. Still undecided if it happens.
- He has heard that GGG's side wants 75-25 and Jacobs side wants 60-40. At 60-40, he doesn't think the fight happens.
- In his opinion a fair deal would be 2/3 of the purse to GGG and 1/3 to Jacobs.
- Hopes the WBA does not change its rule (if it goes to purse bid) of a 75-25 split. GGG is a main belt holder and the bigger draw.
- Fighters should not give away the money they deserve and the rules state they are entitled to.
- Everything regarding GGG vs. Jacobs, the date, and the site will play out in the next few days.
- Thinks if it goes to purse bid GGG's team and HBO will put in an aggressive bid, they have more money than PBC for this fight. PBC is struggling for dates the rest of the year and will put their resources elsewhere, as they likely would be happy to get a big fight for one of their fighters without being financially responsible.
- No chance GGG would fight Jacobs on Showtime.
- Should GGG call out fighters more? He is who he is. We all know others are ducking him and he knows it too.
- Andy Lee is a possible sub fighter (for GGG) if GGG and Jacobs cannot agree.
- Grade for the Pacquiao vs. Vargas card? B.
- Thinks if Lomachenko beats Walters and Salido beats Miura, HBO will make Lomachenko vs. Salido. Would pick Lomachenko pretty easily over Salido. Salido got away with so much dirty stuff and was never warned, Lomachenko didn't know how to deal with it. Doesn't think that would be a problem this time.
- What fight is he more excited for: Lomachenko-Walters or Kovalev-Ward? Kovalev-Ward.
- Does not think anyone mentioned in his article will step up to the plate and fight Andrade.
- Per Andrade's promoter the fight vs. Culcay just needs final signature's and is done for November 5.
- Crawford will not fight again this year. They are trying to get him a January date.
- Tapia vs. Hamed? Was seriously discussed. Would have picked Hamed.
- Crollas says he wants a rematch with Linares, but he has yet to pick up the option.
- Joe Smith Jr.'s team is looking for a fight. Told they were offered a Fonfara rematch, but for low ball money.
- Does not think Donaire seems punch drunk (in regards to rumors he was sounding as such).
- Told that Luis Ortiz is close to a deal with Roc Nation.
- Estrada's fight tomorrow will be on beIN Sports Espanol.
- How many fight posters does he have? Around 4,000.
- Does Braehmer deserve criticism for not fighting through injury? We don't know what his body was feeling. That said, people have fought through far worse.
- Gamboa has been discussed to appear on one of HBO's undercard before the end of the year.
