Sources close to the situation have told BoxingScene.com that a fight between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) and James Kirkland (32-1, 28KOs) is on the verge of being finalized for May 2nd at the Alamadome in San Antonio, Texas.

Alvarez, had hoped to be facing Miguel Cotto on that date before negotiations broke down and the deal was taken off the table over the weekend. Back in 2013, Alvarez drew nearly 40,000 fans as he battled Austin Trout in this venue.

The hard-hitting Kirkland, who hails from Austin, Texas, has not made an appearance in the ring since stopping Glen Tapia in December of 2013.
