Thank you for your responses gents. Turning the focus to the Donaire/Rigo fight w/ Rigo emerging victorious and now has become persona non grata.

Is Rigo in danger of becoming the new Timothy Bradley or is getting the shine he deserves tied to him getting out of his current deal with Top Rank?

new timothy bradley? nah..everyone with functioning eyes can see that rigo won that fight..he's getting shine..which we hope he doesn't suffer a upset loss or an off night to whoever he's facing next when the attention will fully be on him

By Rick Reeno

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has big plans in store for undefeated lightweight contender Omar Figueroa (22-0, 17KOs). Last month, the 23-year-old boxer captured the WBC's interim title with a sensational twelve round unanimous decision over Nihito Arakawa. Figueroa will become the full champion when Adrien Broner, the WBA's champion at 147-pounds, officially walks away from the division.

"Omar is going to become the full champion, once Adrien makes his decision on which division he plans to fight in, but I don't think [Broner is] going to stay at this weight," Schaefer said.

Figueroa has big following in the state of Texas, where his last three fights took place. Schaefer is very interested in staging a big Texas showdown between Figueroa and former champion Juan Diaz (37-4, 19KOs), who also has a big following in Texas.

Last week, Diaz returned to the ring in Laredo in the main event slot of a Top Rank promoted card. Diaz is reportedly working with Top Rank on a fight by fight basis.

"He's working with Top Rank on a fight by fight. He worked with us on a fight by fight. All of that means is that he's a free agent," Schaefer said.

Question of the day #boxing heads. Who's loss is more detrimental to their meteoric rise? #Donaire or #Mares ?

I would go with Mares, simply because Donaire has the more established career and stronger fanbase of the two, making it easier for him to bounce back from the loss.

Plus, a nasty KO like the one suffered by Mares will always be more harmful than a decision loss, IMO.

If I had to choose one I would say it is Mares just because he got KTFO in such spectacular fashion but I am not one of those people who subscribes to one loss being a major detriment...its boxing and everyone is risking a L once they step in that ring.
What matters is how the fighter performs in their next fight after the loss. If they don't look impressive after losing then I begin to suspect that their careers are in trouble.

Rigondeax/Donaire imo opinion was still a good scrap even thogh Rigo was getting the best of him most of the night... AND Donaire still managed to get a KD

Mares got KTFO by a fighter worst than Rigo

end of story

MY answer is #Mares

That was a big loss for Mares but I think he'll bounce back. To give him credit, Mares has fought good fighters and I think a lot of people (including me) slept on Gonzalez and Mares was going up in weight. Khan dealt with the same thing (almost identical situations maybe minus the opposing fighter's quality) and Khan was able to still grab a title and be back in the hunt.

Though it's obviously not happening, Donaire vs Mares would be almost perfect right now (though I know GBP wouldn't throw him in with Donaire right now even after his loss to Rigo).

Mares got destroyed but it was still a less devastating loss than Donaire's :lolbron:

This Easily, not even debatable Donaire the FOTY got a one sided ass whipping over the course of 12 rounds, while Mares got sparked something serious but that happens we arent even sure the better man won Saturday. Not to mention Donaire made every excuse in the book crying and but but but, while Mares was gracious, how he never expected to go undefeated fighting the best, talked about his daughters and such gaining more fans

Mares can recover from this, he tried to get up after the brutal flury and the ref waved it off, but when people see Donaire going forth all they could remember is him running around the ring with his hand covered his eye like a fakkit, he'll get that Devon Alexander hate going forth..............................

End this discussion........................

Gents, I'd like to do a full Coli themed BadCulture Radio show on September 3rd. Topics to include dissecting the upcoming "The One" card, Predictions on the Mitchell vs Arreola fight and maybe a few other things. You all have very strong voices and I'd like you ALL to come on. That way if you have your own websites/ventures that are boxing related you'll have an opportunity to market them. who's down?
