Generally I agree with Bud but I also think the specific thing that triggered the reaction - Showtime getting out of sports - has nothing to do with boxing but rather a wider trend.

Also, boxing’s popularity didn’t take a hit in recent years. It isn’t as popular as in the 50s ofc and probably never will be but polls in recent years showed that boxing gained popularity in recent years not lost.

With that said efforts to make this sport more meritocratic and transparent as opposed to corrupted and confusing are always welcome.
Let’s say I wouldn’t shed a tear for the belt organizations if they would be replaced by one governing body that could be held responsible for keeping their rules and would generally have to operate a lot more transparent.
The system of mutual favors (corruption) should be erased in favor of meritocracy.

It's a very simple fix IMO

WBA, WBO, IBF, WBC should all be more stricter with enforcing mandatories. And disciplinary action would be automatic strip of their belt. That would be the only way to restore order and make Boxing a way more profitable sport

One Time vs One Punch Man
Swift vs Lara
Colbert vs Rayo

shyt, Floyd is the least interesting part about this card :wow:

So THIS is how Showtime decides to go out as one of, if not, their last boxing PPV card of the year huh? At least they’re consistent. This version of Showtime is like Hollywood making shytty movies no one asked them for then wondering why so many flops.

god riddance if this was the continued pattern

Thing is someone would have to force them to do so. The IBF was forced by the FBI I think but the WBC is based in Mexico, WBO in PR and WBA in Panama and it seems like the authorities in those countries are not in a hurry to investigate their obvious corruption.
Problem is also nobody calls for their arrest either, unless a disgruntled fighter does it at one point. The system of mutual favors and short-cuts benefits the most powerful promoters just as much as the organizations, it further ensures their leading role in the market, it’s not their interest this system to end. It only the interest of fans and less powerful fighters, promoters but anyway if a fighter would even entertain the thought to get at their neck they risk being blackballed by the industry as a retirsion for fukking with their money.
