ok, this morning I am stuck on this
thang. people throw that around loosely. people run off a whole list of who Roy ducked, but truth is, he didnt. if you hear everyone's list of Roy's ducked opponents, damn near everyone of them were guys overseas who REFUSED to come to the U.S. how is that ducking? Roy was P4P king for years....if you want him, you will agree to his terms.
I wonder how you guys would feel to go to another man's country and get robbed like Andrade did against Bute? Or worse. Get rabbit punched repeatedly and end up like McClellan?
The only guy that I can think of that never ducked anyone...(that I know of or recall) is Toney. Toney would truly fight anyone, anytime, any place...and still will.
I am critical of Floyd...but be realistic. PW may have been the most dangerous ww at the time but he had little claim to being the best while Floyd was there....lol. As soon as he won his belt he lost to Quintana. He only fought two more times at WW against Quintana and Kolle. PW was only ranked in top 10 P4P one year as I recall...that was the year Floyd was retired...and Manny was
#1 . If Floyd ducked him then Manny ducked him too.
Margarito...dont get me started on that cheat. He only fought PW because he was his mandatory. I remember countless interviews when he said PW was a nobody and didnt deserve a title shot, yet he lost to him.
Why didnt Pac exercise his rematch clause with Bradley? Surely one would think Bradley was an easier matchup than Marquez? If he felt he beat Bradley, why not fight him again...better yet...why have a rematch clause in the first place if you arent going to use it?
Bernard never ducks because he doesnt vacate titles unless he is moving to another division. Even still, he NEVER wanted to fight Dawson and only did so because he was his mandatory. He knew it was a fight he would have difficulty winning because of the style. B-Hop knows who he can beat and he shows that by immediately making the fight. He avoided a Dawson match for 2 years but as soon as Pavlik got the title, that fight was made in 2 months. As soon as Pascal got the belt, that fight was made in 2 months. Now I dont blame Bernard...there was much more to gain in those fights than a fight with Dawson. So was he ever legitimately ducking Dawson? No. Reluctant yes.
The only fighters that dont
are the ones who never had the luxury to do so. Anyone else is fair game for discussion.
