At heavyweight it's always been about the skill factor for me, because if you remove that, you just left with mostly big athletic nikkas.
Every other weight division has to deal with fighting taller guys, but when this happens at heavyweight, it seems like mission impossible for most guys. Like the ability to close distance or take away jabs or work the inside is damn near a lost art. So anybody half way decent comes along that knows how to use their reach a bit can be a force. Price just won a fight nobody expected him to just off of employing basic boxing shyt you learn at novice level. At the lighter weights, the same level of opponent would have tested Price a lot more or even pull it off. Samuel Vargas vs Amir Khan is a perfect example, but the only difference was Khan was still the favorite.
Stamina and being in shape to not gas like you said definitely plays a big part too. Since cats don't have to make weight they take it for granted. You gotta have the stamina an endurance to employ your skills.

Y’all exaggerated the hell out of that Teofimo fight. He clearly won 8 rounds and he wasn’t as explosive because he wasn’t fighting a can. Just b cause you never heard of a guy doesn’t mean he can’t fight.
