I don't think Team AJ should exercise the rematch clause. He probably should move on, similar to the way Wlad moved on from the Corrie Sanders fight.

Get a couple bounce back fights and eventually fight the winner of Wilder/Ruiz ?

Something like that

AJ is still a huge draw, so when you have a guy like this that generates so much money, you have to manage his career carefully.

What could be the sense of urgency to put him back in the ring with a guy that outboxed him, outfought him, and knocked him down 4 times? With his star power, he’ll always be in the mix for a title shot.

Some guys never recover from something like this, so I would recommend some fights to gain his confidence back.

Easy to move on when your big brother kicks your bully's ass. :mjlol:

Nah AJ needs to run that back. You start running from the Ruiz's of the world and you'll keep running. Even if he loses again, he needs to look better and be more competitive at least.

Truthfully he needs to start fighting 3x a year and stay sharp. Fight a jobber and then rematch Ruiz. :manny:

Wlad wasn't at the top of the division with 3 belts when he lost though
Joshua did alright until he got knocked down in the 3rd and not taking away anything from Ruiz but Joshua was reckless, went into a slugfest against an opponent who he thought is badly hurt. After that first KD he couldn't find his footing anymore.
He has other flaws too but if he only just keeps Ruiz at bay and making it boring he will have a decent chance to win a rematch.

But Ruiz will also fight with even more confidence, the psychological edge is his of course

Soro rematch next for Castano

Michel Soro rematch next for Brian Castano

Castano won their 2017 meeting by split decision

It looks as though we won’t be getting an immediate rematch of last Saturday’s quality battle between Brian Castano and Erislandy Lara. ESPN reports that the Castano, the WBA “regular” champion, is contractually obligated to rematch mandatory challenger Michel Soro as part of the agreement that led to the Lara fight.

One would imagine that a more pressing concern would be unifying the “regular” strap with the “super” belt held by the presently unoccupied Jarrett Hurd, but the WBA is literally less legitimate than the IBO.

Soro (33-2-1, 22 KO) has been a top super welterweight for quite some time, but bouts with Liam Smith and Austin Trout both fell through, leaving him to tout Glen Tapia and Emanuele Blandamura as his biggest wins. He fought Castano (15-0-1, 11 KO) for the interim belt in 2017, losing a split decision in his native France.

You can watch their first fight here, though the “HD” in the title is a stronger term than I’d use.

Good!
