I agree, but I’m taking it further that it’s not a big deal that he didn’t know him, even without the bid. Big L didn’t have reach like that. He was just a broke, local NY rapper who got shot.

Damn nikkas gon be mad:lolbron:

I feel you tho, jada was right when he said dead rappers get better promotion:francis:

Cmon man, you are smarter than this.
:mjlol:

I’m actually a huge Big L fan. If he would have got that deal with the ROC before he passed, my stance would be totally different. However, he never got to make that leap from underground to mainstream.

I feel you...cause on the flipside, I be cofused when tons of east coast nikkas dont know Mac or Fiend from No Limit when they were bigger than L in the midwest

Further up east you go, I could see that. But I knew a few NY dudes around the DMV at least that knew who Fiend and Mac were. Then again, Scarface has a big fanbase in DC still (mostly amongst the older heads) so I can see No Limit making a mark around the way.

Yeah I agree about The Roc situation too.
But now, you have to look at a few things that Big L had that most underground artists didn't have either. If he had a budget to get on BET and Yo MTV Raps with a video...he's not that underground. Plus, when The Big Picture was released on Rawkus past him passing, you could find it distributed pretty heavily like some of the Rawkus joints that dropped like Black Star and (not so much because this was harder to find) Company Flow.

Remember, Lifestylez ov Da Poor & Dangerous was on Columbia. That was back in 1995. That's no mom and pop indie record label. That's a label with a budget and outreach. So maybe, what you mean is that his reception had a regional feel to it on the East Coast mainly. Plus, you said you have been checking for music since 1999 online or something, right? If I got that wrong, my bad but I remember you mentioned that year. Before 99, I recall nikkas knowing about Big L. Maybe not that many but there were a few. And I remember being down south hearing that MVP remix from time to time on the radio but not much.

We got the internet in ‘99. The internet definitely allowed you to gain exposure to artist that you didn’t have. Not sure how this is relevant to the convo. I’ve been listening to music way before the internet. What I was saying is that I feel that there are some artist that you kind of had to be on the internet to know about, because they would never reach your region by word of mouth.

We are going to agree to disagree.
I basically understand where BT is coming from. BT is a Midwest nygga. In my mind, Big L was nothin more then a little broke local rapper. He ended up getting some fame after he died. If it wasn’t for the internet, I would have never heard of him in my entire life.

Battle Truth is still a nikka that be on the internet. He’s a blogger. It is surprising if he really doesn’t know who Big L is

Battle Truth is a recent internet dude. He's probably been on the internet for the last 2 years.
He doesn't come across as a hip hop head. I'm not surprised that he doesn't know who Big L is. As a matter of fact, I could probably name a ton of underground rappers that are both old and new that Battletruth probably has no idea who they are.

That's fine, its just when you mentioned it, you made it sound like from the internet you heard about Big L in 99. But I see what you sayin'. Yeah we will definitely have to agree to disagree like WE have before, lol. What I bolded, I don't think that is neccessarily true. Then again, your definition of local and underground seems to be different from mine. Hey it is what it is...you have that opinion.

However, I do agree with BT not hearing about Big L. I can't see it completely from the point of him being in the Midwest but I can see definitely see it from him doing a bid for as long as he has.

True, but its not like we're talking about Breezly Brewin' from Juggaknots or RA The Rugged Man tho either who more of that kinda following than Big L. I feel like Big L kept walking that fine line of getting a buzz more and more. And course, especially after he died.

Math has to keep misfit. She’s dope. I said earlier that Math shouldn’t always rely on guest. If he could just kept it Math, Misfit, Hiphopisreal, and the occasional guest, he’s good.

In listening to an episode with just those 3 and it’s been dope

I always thought Daylyt ain't sound clear enough on a beat (sounded like he had marbles in his mouth) but randomly decided to peep this project and he sounds a bit better than some of the stuff I heard before.
