The AMC nerd is right. No one needs 7 individual fukking movies before Justice League.
Using the movies as a sort of cinematic Brave & The Bold is a good idea.

It's apples and oranges. The guardians (and the x-men and the fantastic four) were first introduced as teams. The justice league and the avengers are SUPER teams. Big difference.

The novelty of the justice league was seeing these established icons all under one roof. Marvel understood this perfectly and that's why they took the time to first establish each character on their own before giving us the avengers movie. Had the avengers movie come right after the first Iron Man movie, without the build up and without first giving us cinematic interpretations of the other characters... it wouldn't have been the colossal hit it was. The reason it succeeded was because it was a true crossover event of the likes not seen before.

They're gonna go full steam ahead with the justice league movie regardless but seeing these guys together in a movie before establishing them as giants on their own does lessen the effect a bit. More than likely it will just feel like Superman and Batman and friends.

The reason Marvel needed to do the solo movies 1st is because other than the Hulk, all of the characters are B-list heroes who the common movie-goer is not familiar with. Justice League on the other hand has 3 A-list heroes (4 if you count Aquaman, who although his fame comes from being ridiculed, he's famous nonetheless), so DC/Warner doesn't have to introduce the characters to the audience. The audience is familiar with most of them, and know how iconic each hero is on their own.

Everyone knows what the Flash can do but not very many people outside of fan circles know who he is and how he came to be. Same with Green Lantern and Aquaman. I would argue that Cap and Thor even prior to their own movies were AT LEAST on the same level as those guys. Everyone knew OF them but not very many people knew ABOUT them.

But the movies changed all that. Now Cap and Thor are household names. Now the Avengers movie feels like a crossover spectacle and a meeting of giants. They even took the time to make a new Hulk movie even though there had already been one a few years prior... and really they didn't have to because Hulk actually DOES fall into the category you mentioned earlier of characters that need no introduction.

But they did anyway. Why? Because they knew that they needed a cinematic interpretation of the character for THIS universe if they wanted the team up movie to feel as big as it possibly could.

As much as everyone clowns on them for getting a late start, it'd be stupid of Warner Bros to produce solo movies before pushing out a Justice League. But I see what you're saying.

Justice League: War actually does accomplish introducing everyone all together pretty well.

I could see people not knowing Thor but Captain America and Iron Man are known just as much as Aquaman.
