It's a good moment but it comes down to execution. Snyder isn't a guy who grasp emotion like that lol. at least not lately. It's an emotional character beat that needs a director who understands that. Like you said, show him dealing with that more or make it a bigger part of what he's dealing with and it hits better. It's a good moment if you isolate it. It's a perfect moment for batman. But as a part of the whole, it feels meh because of everything that came before it or didn't come before it. It's clearly foreshadowed and I don't think anyone missed that unless they're stupid or blind, but it's about execution. Both civil war and this flick dealt with parental grief but it plays out better in one because it's clearly a part of one characters journey whereas with the other it's like "is this a part of his journey or just bruce's normal moping around about his parents?" And it's messed up because he has a great arc in this movie. Going from being this crazed vigilante who's not even a good man anymore to going back to being a good dude because he's realized what he's become and at what costs and that he's become a version of joe chill. That's good shyt but it just fell flat like my man @Atsym Sknyfs said

C'mon breh...that Civil War shyt was tacked on like a mofo... Still a good scene, but if you call that great execution...

It wasn't tacked on at all. It's there in the beginning of the movie, it's a constant thread with his emotional issues and his relationship with Pepper and of course it's teased throughout. NOW what I will say is that it's a sudden realization for this particular movie which is definitely tacked on. Yeah they've talked about Tony having daddy issues since the first iron man but it's never been like this. And it didn't feel cheap. It felt honest and earned and his reaction was definitely in character as was everyone else involved.

Nah breh.
I'm talking about how they got to that moment. He just so happens to leave on his own and go there along with them.
The dude calls
Winter Soldier
than Manchurian Candidate minutes before it happens. So his actions afterwards just seemed like a good reason to create a fight scene.

It became a knockoff Seven scene for me.

The "twist" should have been revealed far earlier when they were actually at "war"

The story is the weakest part of Civil War.

ETA: I'd go as far as saying Batman's action (in the wrong) made more sense than Tony's in Civil War.

I think that comes back to knowing the characters well enough after X amount of movies to feel like this is how they'd react. Of course tony would go off and do what he did the way he did it on his own. And everything that follows after that is all in character. In order for any emotional bit in a movie to work you have to buy into the characters and their actions. If not it all falls flat.

Now if you feel like the way the bad guy engineered it was just a little too clever then I'll grant you that. I think it works but I also understand why someone would feel that way because that shyt becomes annoying after a while but I don't think that takes away from the moment itself. And I'd argue Tony's actions made complete sense finding out what he found out because he's not going off of logic. He's going off of pure unbridled emotion. The logic will kick in later. It's the same argument @obarth and I made regarding superman not fighting Zod on Mars when everyone was bytching about him fighting in smallville. The dude put hands on his mother. At that point, all bets are off. I'm not thinking at that point and I'm not level-headed. You threaten moms and it's a wrap plain and simple.

:camby:

That is literally the most important scene in the fukking movie, and it's stupid, corny, contrived and the dialogue is forced and unnatural.

we concluded it was poorly executed

Just saw the movie, it started out real slow and it picked up at the end. Lois is so damn annoying. So lex knows every justice league's identity? I don't think superman was used enough, I mean how many lines did he get?

Dont think he knows identities..
He only has camera footage no actual names.

It'll be like the justice episode when he unmasked flash abd was like i have no idea who this is.

That's what everybody gets annoyed with these losers. They have to pat themselves on the back and claim mental superiority to mask the fact that it just wasn't done well.

Tony had a human emotion, understandable as his character was built up in the movie and the several you all love to nitpick which were prior. He thought his parents died one way and finds out they were murdered by the guy 5 feet from him the next minute :mjlol:

Meanwhile The Batman just got a spear is and about to carve the batsignal in the face of a guy he just said if we even have 1% of doubt he has to be destroyed and then becomes BFF after an alien who is his enemy brings up Martha :mjlol:

Besides it being done horribly, it's about the equivalent of the joker or Lex Luthor telling the Batman/Superman "hey look over there!" as they are being apprehended so they can escape.

:deadmanny: I hope you're joking,
The man under mind control killed my parents. Let me kill him instead and the let guy who has been responsible for the death of others get away and potentially hurt others. :mjcry:

If you actually read my posts as I said in terms of execution it would have been more meaningful if it was revealed earlier that way that two hand touch Airport fight could have had more stakes. Not after he openly admitted to being played...and still got played again :heh:

But this aint the thread for that. :snooze:
