Feels like the devil fruit change is a retcon tbh, a clever one but sitll. Seems crazy the world government never noticed it until now. I like the gear 5th but I feel like this could have been done with a regular gomu gomu fruit who has awakened.

Oda have himself complete creative control and a never ending "get out of jail free card" with the gear 5th / Nika power description. Only limited by the users aka oda's imagination. Can't wait to see what Oda comes up with

So what do we think the drawback is for G5? G2 shortens lifespan, G3 shrinks Luffy, and G4 has a time limit...
My theory is G5 is basically a suicide attack and kills the user when it wears off. Another theory is that G5 causes the user to die when they turn 20. Since "Joyboy" has to be a boy, and 20 is the age in Japan where you're considered an adult. Could be why Joyboy failed, maybe he ran out of time. Either way maybe Law will have to do that surgery to stop Luffy from dying after using G5?

I'm kinda hoping there are no drawbacks to G5. I think the running out of time thing has run its course. Everyone he fights moving forward should be a beast and having a drawback kinda cheapens the fight to me. It gives his opponents a chance when they shouldn't have one.
All in all, I think the chapter was pretty great. Luffy's fruit has been kinda cartoonish from the beginning and this final form makes sense. It will take me a while to get used to his look.

Oda loves to use small shyt/dialogue to foreshadow. That exchange Luffy had with Momo when he told him he's not a zoan is probably just one or many minor details Oda used to seed this
