The Charlotte Katakuri/Monkey D. Theory
Now before I get into my full fledged theory I'd like yall to look at my starting idea and how all of this started.
P.S. Also for the sake of space I'm not gonna put pictures up but rather reference the manga chapter and page number I'm talking about.
Introduction
Now in this message I noted some of the things that struck my as odd in the way Katakuri was adamant on killing luffy specifically to end up on the sunny even though Big mom was on her way in her deranged state. Then when asked about it by Noble croc Katakuri stated "......... just in case". As it has been shown from the very beginning of the manga, Oda's uses of ellipsis are strategic and have a reason to it, and I believe in this case he uses an ellipsis on Katakuri (a person that usually isn't hesitant about what he does) to indicate that he's hiding something, and I believe this connects to him being a Monkey D. and the son of Garp.
Similarities between other Monkey D. members and Katakuri
Random, but how this idea first popped in my head was because of how Katakuri looked similar to Luffy. To me, he looked like if Luffy did what Gon did and turned into and older version of himself, and as I started to put the pieces together it made more and more sense.
Out of the similarities we see between other Monkey D's and Katakuri the most prevalent one shown in the manga is Katakuri's left scar. Like Luffy, Garp, and Dragon, Monkey D's have a noticeable mark on the left side of their face that all are unique in their own way (Luffy has one under his eye, Garp has one on the side of his eye and Dragon has a tattoo). Much like the pattern, Katakuri's mark is different in the fact that it's across his cheek. Some of you might be wondering why he has another identical scar on his right cheek, and I'll go more in depth on that later in this post. But even with his right scar Oda shows is left scar far more. The first time we saw him on Chapter 860, page 10 (Link:
One Piece 860 - Read One Piece 860 Online - Page 10) only his left scar is shown, on the latest chapter when he's on the Sunny only his left scar is shown. In fact out of all the drawn pictures of him in the manga, there are only two or three times we see his right scar and only his right scar, and that's definitely not on accident on Oda's part.
Another small similarity I see between Katakuri and Garp is in the first appearance of Katakuri in the manga. When he kills Jigra the Organ Dealer on page 9 of Chapter 860 (Link:
One Piece 860 - Read One Piece 860 Online - Page 9) someone references him as Dogtooth. I'm not too sure what the overall OP community believes of the validity in the usage of dogtooth but I see no other translation that doesn't say dogtooth so imma stick with it for now. What's so unique about that name is that unlike any other commanders or children of Big Mom for that matter, it has nothing to do with their characters specifically or candy, but it has an obvious connection with Garp. The first time we saw Garp in the manga on the cover page of chapter 92(Link:
One Piece 92 - Read One Piece 92 Online - Page 1) we see him with a dog mask covering his face. We also see him with a ship that has a dog head on it on the cover page of chapter 113 (Link:
One Piece 113 - Read One Piece 113 Online - Page 1). As a dogtooth is something that comes from dog, so did Katakuri come from Garp.
How Garp and Big Mom Met
Considering that one is a legendary marine and another is a Yonko it'd be strange to think that they both would come together and conceive a child (or maybe two if Dragon is Big Mom's child). But them having some sort of relations together is something that was hinted at in Big Mom's debut in Chapter 651. On page 14 of Chapter 651 (Link:
One Piece 651 - Read One Piece 651 Online - Page 14) Luffy states to Big Mom that he was Monkey D. Luffy, then Big Mom goes on to state "Monkey D..." with an ellipsis (as I stated earlier ellipsis are not on accident when Oda does it). She then goes on to state "Ahh... Garp's Grandson" instead of stating his name. This proves that they did know each other in the past as they should. Now let's go onto how they met each other.
Before discussing how they met, we must first gauge the age of Katakuri to see how old Garp and Big Mom were at his birth. First we know that Big Mom had her first child 42 years ago and she has had birth every year until her last set of children were born 18 years ago. Now if we know that Perospero and most likely Compote were born before him we can gauge his age at around 40 years old. 40 years ago Big Mom was 28 (coincidentally the same age that was shown to us in the pic in the current SBS, Link:
SBS Volume 86) and Garp was 38 at the time since he is 78 after the timeskip. At the age of 38, Garp was definitely in his prime fighting with Gol D. Roger in the New World, so he was well known, now onto how they met.
As we've learned recently, Gol D. Roger did go into Big Mom's territory at one point in time for her poneglyph, and we know that throughout Roger's journey Garp was pursuing him. I personally believe that while pursuing him on Whole Cake Island, Roger escaped Big Mom's territory just barely while Garp was captured and at one point in time he grew a bond between Big Mom. Personally, I believe at the time Big Mom wasn't as heartless as she is now, and that she firmly believed in her dream of a world with no discrimination. While captured Garp saw that she wasn't just a simple pirate that wanted to cause pain and Big Mom believed in his intentions as a marine were not like most marines at the time (we can see this affect Garp today considering that he isn't hard on those pirates whose intentions aren't evil). Their bond eventually ended up in them having a child(s) together. At one point I believe Garp had to leave, whether they fell off, Big Mom kicked him to the curb or he had to dip do to his Marine status I don't know.
As Katakuri was growing up under Big Mom, she realized that he was beginning to look like him. As we have seen from Big Mom in the manga, she despises when someone reminds them of another or if their ugly, especially when it comes to her children. She never wanted to see Chiffon again because she looked like Lola, and she didn't want to see Pudding's third eye because she believed it was disgusted. As he had the same scar and facial features he had and the fact that she couldn't just tell him to never be around her since he was the strongest among her children and her most vital subordinate, she decided out of spite to cut the other side of Katakuri's face symmetrical to his left side and forced him to where a scarf so he didn't remind her of Garp.
As for Dragon, I don't know if he's the son of Big Mom or not because we know nothing about his ass, but I will say if he was, it would explain why Luffy loves to eat so much.
And that's the end to my theory. I know it was an awful long one (it was a whole damn essay, been writing for two hours) but I wanted to put all my thoughts into this shyt before Oda reveals whether or not this is true to gain clout on this thread. Oda did say that from here on out Whole Cake Island was gonna get better, so maybe this is what he's referring to. Anyways I'm out, peace!
