going through all the best picture noms this week. have seen birdman, boyhood, grand budapest, american sniper, and whiplash. so far whiplash was my fav of the bunch but i cant see it winning a best picture. wasnt feeling budapest (im a wes anderson fan) or american sniper at all really. birdman was cool but i think my expectations going in were too high. for some reason i can picture boyhood winning as it just seems like something the academy would choose. selma and imitation game will be watched later this week but tonight my girl wants to see that foxcatcher.

Inarritu just won the DGA.

Birdman has to be considered the major favorite for Best Picture now.

:blessed:

As for that feature film win for Inarritu, it's yet another sign that it just might be Birdman winning big at the Oscars this year. After all, the DGA winner has gone on to win the Oscar all but seven times since they began handing out awards in 1948 and one of those is Ben Affleck's win a couple years ago when he wasn't even nominated for an Oscar. The Academy made up for that by giving Argo the top prize.

Of course, the other possible winner tonight was Richard Linklater (Boyhood), but man that movie seems to be coming under fire lately, especially with articles such as this thinly veiled backhand published in the "New York Times" on Friday. Cheap shots, it's the way of the awards race.

Over the last 66 years, the winner of the top prize at the DGA Awards went on to win the best director Oscar on all but seven occasions and his or her film went on to win the best picture Oscar on all but 14 occasions.

Us cinephiles gonna be glued to our TV like its the super bowl :heh:
I would root for any of the nominees to beat Boyhood; Its not as bad as Crash is, but Boyhood is not the Best picture of the year, not even close. It must lose.

Nah, I like Redmayne. Plus we all kknow that Boyhood would only win because of the directing trick, not because its a good movie...that's my problem with it winning anything other than best director (which I think should still go to Bennett Miller)

Nah, I think Boyhood is a fantastic movie, even if not the best or my favorite of the year.

Maybe I need to watch it again, but I didn't like the story as a whole. There were flashes of great, but too many lulls for me where I just didn't care anymore...I'm not saying its a bad movie, but I didn't like it more than many other films this year.
