Breh we've had this discussion. We're film nerds so we pay attention. We all recognize that there are issues in the process and that it's not perfect and that sometimes it doesn't always work the way we want, but obviously we get excited about it. Let us:cook: breh

Plus we're always suggesting movies in here all of the time. There are plenty of people including @blazn101 and @Uncle_Ruckus who mention how they're put on to stuff they never would've seen if not just for conversation

I'll let ya'll 'cook', which is more of a metaphorical heating up two day old McDonalds drive-thru in the microwave.

I hope so too but I also think we're giving them a lot more credit than is needed. Some of them don't even watch the movies, they just vote for the thing they're hearing a lot of buzz about
And that's my biggest issue with the voting. System is flawed heavily. That should make it mandatory that all films be screened for voters prior to the awards

Yeah definitely should. It still got a release in 2014. Same with Inherent Vice
last year was such a well rounded year.. i enjoyed every blockbuster popcorn flick i saw..plus most of the indies :wow:

i think it was lacking THAT movie for the casuals cuz i see online all the time "there were no good movies" in response to the doom and gloom articles..but for us film nerds we ate :eat:

I don't get people who say this year sucked....at all. Almost every blockbuster came through.

shyt, the majority of my Top 10 list is from BEFORE Oscar season this year.

It's been a really shytty year. Rather unremarkable altogether. The absolute best movie I saw this year is 'technically' a 2013 release so I'm still not sure if I should put it in my top 10 (I'm very strict with shyt like that) and while I still got a lot of movies to see, it ain't good if I'm looking at my current top 5 like "this shyt really made it because there was nothing better out?".

In terms of films likely to get awards and stuff like that I think 2014 has been better then the last 3 years.

You know I don't play that shyt though.

Like... at all.

My current top three has two movies in it I'm confident nobody else on this board has seen, with one of them having a whopping 559 user ratings on IMDb. :deadrose:

Hah yeah I know. I'm sure I'm missing some good stuff but I can't stand going to some C list film festival and see 40 movies and maybe 1 of them is good. If I'm go deep it's based of recommendation from others but I don't have peeps like that in my life outside of the Film Room. My film school friends either hate everything made after 1980 or are suckers for every emotional (cancer, HIV, gay struggles, loss etc.) film festival picture.

Well, the only respectable film festival they have in the Netherlands is IFFR (and that's not a C-festival, outside of their mistake to always schedule it alongside Sundance), and I mostly use it to see tons of Asian cinema of acclaimed directors as well as a bunch of very carefully picked obscure movies. I generally pick 5-7 movies at most, and I can say in the past three years I've only been truly disappointed once by a movie I picked.

And it helps the old Dutch movie forum I still lurk on has a bunch of super hardcore arthouse dudes who do most of the sorting out for me. I'm looking at a hundred titles by foreign directors I've never heard of like :patrice:and then some dude comes through like "A new Xiao-toto Aisibabalooka movie? I'm buying two tickets!" :ooh:
I honestly don't know what I'd do without them. :wow:
