It has been an unmitigated disaster in the pool for Team USA at these Olympics. They'll finish with their lowest gold medal count in who knows how long. Also, the fact that no individual USA male has won gold in any other event yet is surprising.

I don’t agree that it’s been a disaster tbh it’s not like they aren’t swimming well there were a couple of American records broken. the world is catching up with America to an extent but that’s only because America is letting the world catch up most of these athletes either go to college here or train here so it makes sense to not be as dominant

It's been a disaster in terms of the standard for USA swimming, which is winning gold. Even swimmer Bobby Finke said after winning silver in the 800 m that he was the "first loser".

Other countries have caught up (mainly Australia), but this is still very disappointing.
