Well, it's not like Ohtani DOESN'T deserve the MVP, because he does.
But Lindor deserves it, too.

If the whole point of stats analysis/sabermetrics/whatever phrase you want to use, is to gain a better understanding of how players contribute to wins, then we can't keep defaulting to the casual stats and narratives to hand out awards.

At some point, true understanding of the game needs to be reflected by acknowledging that yes....this player's stats might look less impressive...but they're more valuable.
Sabermetrics are deeply flawed and people need to stop citing them as a reason player X is better/more valuable than player Y. Bryce Turang has a higher WAR than Jose Altuve because he fields one more ball at second base per game. It's ridiculous.

Hitting is wildly undervalued in these advanced metrics, especially when you consider how terrible the league as a whole is hitting in recent times.

Not as flawed as the traditional stats people hold onto.

Maybe the lesson here is that 1 more out per game is a massive thing.

If a pitcher got 1 more batter out per start, that's 35 outs per year. That's 12 more innings a year. That's not nothing. Especially if you consider how many more pitches that saves for himself and for the bullpen.

Well that's what wRC+ is for. Altuve has a wRC+ of 129, while Turang's is only 91. Nobody is taking a 2B who hits 38% worse over another just because he has a better glove :mjlol:

That's my point. Turang's WAR is 4.6 and Altuve's is 3.5. Defense is outrageously overvalued with sabermetrics.

@Remote explain to me why Corbin Burnes has a WAR of 2.9 and Erick Fedde has 5.4 WAR.

Burnes: 3.06 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 30 starts, 182.1 IP, 164 Ks.
Fedde: 3.38 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 30 starts, 170 IP, 144 Ks.

A stat I don't like but you probably do:

Burnes: 3.63 FIP
Fedde: 3.99 FIP

fukking Lindor :mjlol:

Doesn't lead the league in anything, isn't better than Ohtani at anything, but he plays defense!

If they had similar numbers you could do a deeper advanced stat dive and break down what "MVP" actually means to you personally, but they're not

The guy with the video game numbers is getting it, and they're even impressive when comparing them with his AS teammates.

He plays one of the most difficult positions in the field but he doesn't do anything better than Ohtani.
:unimpressed:
I don't give a damn about Ohtani's pitching, he didn't pitch this season. All he has to do is focus on hitting.

Fangraphs' WAR has Corbin Burnes at 3.4 WAR and Erick Fedde at 3.1 WAR.
