Wasn't a need to pay Fried $200M. He's good but there will be cheaper who will produce the same results

From a pure talent perspective, I like Fried. As a pitcher, he tracks with what the Yankees generally look for: low exit velocity, high ground ball, good barrel rate %. He also has the lowest ERA of any starting pitcher since 2020.
My concern is with the length of the contract. 8 years for a guy who's already 30 and isn't exactly the most durable. I generally don't like paying pitchers after 30 as is. And he's going to be pitching for us until 38. If he can give us quality pitching until 34, I'll be satisfied.
Still, I like this a hell of a lot better than throwing 400 million at Jake Arrieta 2.0 (aka Corbin Burnes)

25M is not what it used to be
I don't buy this at all. Berrios and Gausman are good starters on very reasonable deals who rarely miss starts. Blake Snell throws 120 innings a year and just got 5/$182 million; Eovaldi got $25 per which is more than either while being injury prone. A lot of teams would be in on Gausman and Berrios.
They're stuck with Springer but teams would be calling about Bichette. He was awful last season but that's an extreme outlier for his career and he'll be 27 when the season begins. I would 100% take him on the Tigers to man short over the scrubs they already have there.
They're basically paying Cobb and Maeda combined the same as Max Fried this season. This is why myself and @tremonthustler1 say to just pay the best guys and do NOT pay a bunch of middling guys the same or more.
I hate them.
