Theres plenty of other targets that can be had multiple ones for alot less that would make a team formidable (Teo Santander Fried Bregman) You land 2 of those + a pitcher youre in business and those cotnracts combined wont cost you 750...I understand the value of Ohtani at 700 off the field its not the same for Soto ON or OFF....i dont thnk the Jays are getting him and im glad theyre not its a waste of resources....Ive advocated go get 1 fo Fried or Burnes and get 2 hitters of the plethora of ones out there and youre back in business you dont need Soto at that assinine cost....My fear is by luck Soto chooses them at 800-825m they wont spend a dime anywhere else and its A-Rod on the Rangers all over again...
the bolded is untrue.
Soto in NY would make that money back instantaneously for the same reasons Ohtani would do it in LA. What's the last superstar Dominican player in NY? A-Rod when it was convenient?
Of any of those targets, none of them have the kind of clutch gene Soto has (I know you'll mention Teoscar, but Teoscar has always owned the Yankees. He got the best matchup humanly possible for him). Once Soto leaves, Judge goes back to RF, so all you're looking for is a LF.
I think the Mets can pivot off not getting Soto pretty well. The Jays probably could too. Red Sox have a bunch of youngins they'll play when they're ready. The Yankees would stand to lose their leadoff hitter and 2nd bat from the postseason with no one really to replace them. Soto at $700 is a better deal than Judge at half the price because now in the playoffs you have to carry Judge to a title.
