I mean recruiting is obviously where the program is made, without top players or at least good players, you have nothing, the Xs & Os are where the actual game is won, you can have the best players but it doesn’t matter if you don’t put them in a position to win.
I’m gonna kinda tie coaching hires and culture in, I think about how Alabama has done it, they’ve built a machine culture, and what I mean by that is, no matter the player or coach that comes thru Alabama, things pretty much remains the same, you don’t have a coach trying to sabotage Saban, you don’t have much infighting from the players, it’s a consistent process and I think having that stable culture is so important in CFB. Another thing is that, at Alabama, everyone for the most part gets a fair shot, just because you’re a 5 star, doesn’t mean you’re gonna automatically get the most PT, you still have to earn your keep, a 2-3 star can easily take your spot, look at Levi Wallace, he was a walk-on and now he’s a pretty good player for the Bills.
Lastly, strength & conditioning, I mean you see the difference most Saturdays between the top programs in the sport and the middling programs below, they’re bigger, faster, and stronger.

Recruiting is one in the same with coaching, having those 4 1st round D-linemen helped Brent come up with a hell of a game plan, having 3-4 first round wrs allow you to do more, having Trevor Lawrence and Watson allow you to coach differently, i have no doubt that you still have to be sound in your approach but having certain players can cover shortcomings or allow you to do what isn’t conventional
Like i said what separates Alabama is the football program, Ad, the president, the boosters, the board etc are all on board with the game plan, one band one sound no one is trying to push their agenda, or fukkin up the flow
i have no doubt your S&C is top notch, but when you bringing in nikkas that are already grown, and probably committed to the weight room, ain’t that much transformation going on, yes a few kids def benefited from you alls program, but more were simply maintained/slightly enhanced
