And why Nick changed his ENTIRE offensive philosophy after catching hell from teams that had the talent to run it at peak efficiency vs his teams. It’s why I pushback at the all you need is talent crowd. Different sport but if talent was all you needed, Kentucky would’ve owned CBB like UCLA back in the day. Having talent WITH Xs and Os is the difference between a Calipari and Coach K.

cal is underrated as an X’s & O’s guy…and for all the top 3 classes Duke has brought in over the last 20 years they have 2 titles to show for it…I’d say they’ve both drastically underachieved given the talent they have when compared to UConn or Louisville or ‘Nova who’ve won titles without a decade+ of top 3 classes.

uk and Duke have both missed the tournament at least 1x in the last decade too which is absurd considering the amount of talent they bring in.

it’s more than talent for sure but the talent allows you to scheme what others can’t, and basketball is more about cohesion, matured talent, a team full of juniors and seniors is a better team than pure talent. Not to mention one player can literally lift a team like beasy did at ksu

having the better team can literally get you into the playoffs, but if you don’t have some x&o then it won’t get you past your first opponent

the best example was les miles lsu and dantoni msu(and that’s only because they really ain’t have a game plan beyond run play defense and a couple play action shots)

I think we went 2017-2019 without a play of 40 or more yards. I remember we lost a bowl game to Oregon with a score of 7-6

we went TEN years without a punt return for a TD lol

I miss Dantonio’s defenses but I do not miss run, run, incomplete on 3rd & 8+.

No different than not having talent and forcing you to scheme. Boise St, Cincy, Urbana’s Utah teams, pre-Big 12 TCU, all were at a talent disadvantage but the staffs coached around that. Cincy this year did some things that confused Bama even tho the final score and stats don’t show that. They just weren’t deep enough once their starters needed breathers or got hurt. That’s what separates a lot of these teams. Basketball teams who winning titles ain’t got a starting squad full of 4 year guys because if they’re any good, they’re leaving after a year

The teams you listed was a confluence type situation, and playing a team with time, vs week in and out having to play a team, there’s a difference between having 4 or so weeks and week to week game plans, look plan is important, but the reality is more often than not, you can scheme your ass off and it’s not enough, because you just don’t have the horses, Bama is not the same Bama at this moment, and came a few bad plays and missed opportunities from getting a chip, having Anderson and turner and 8 on the front 7 allows Bama to erase mistakes, and game plan entirely different, having Williams allows you to do what most can’t, for me it all feeds back into talent that recruiting gets you, because as good as them young wrs were they just weren’t ready despite the game plan and Bryce hitting them in their hands (I’m talking to you 84 and 7)

exactly, let’s extend the playoffs so we can watch UNC or Utah get smashed by the SEC champs :beli:
I’m not even on that wave. Just more opportunities for a cat to get injured and possibly hurt their draft position. At some point, someone has to step in and let the others know “hey y’all, we might be decapitating our own sport with some of the shyt we’re doing”. All about the $$ tho

Thoughts? :lolbron:

have not seen a lot of Rhodes scholars come out of Oregon but have from Bama, he could have just said, Oregon gave me an opportunity to work with Nike, and to possibly work with them after i graduated/retire from the league, i guarantee whoever is his pr person probably had an aneurysm, because he probably got up there and started adlibing.

No matter where you go it’s a big alumni base/rich boosters, so if you are good enough you can step into rooms and meet people that can change your life, and put you/your family on
