Less than a week before this year’s College Football Playoff pairings get announced, some of the potential participants are lobbying to move the site of one of the semifinals.

No big deal, but it would only require blowing up the CFP’s relationship with a storied event known as the Granddaddy of Them All.

People with knowledge of the discussions have told The Athletic that several members of the Management Committee that runs the CFP — at least the ACC, SEC and Notre Dame — are making a case to relocate the Jan. 1 semifinal scheduled to take place in Pasadena, due primarily to California restrictions that would prevent players’ family members from attending. At least four of the remaining Playoff contenders, No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 3 Clemson and No. 5 Texas A&M — are represented by voices that want to move the game.

The CFP Management Committee is meeting Tuesday and Thursday and could make a decision at any time this week, according to a CFP source. The most likely alternative would be AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The Rose Bowl Game brand is co-owned by the city of Pasadena, so if the College Football Playoff semifinal is played at another venue, it will not be allowed to use the Rose Bowl name. And the Tournament of Roses would not likely host a different game.

There's a dude on Rivals thats got connects. Said that the players legit hate both Gattis and Don Brown. They want them gone. Funny enough, they all really do love Harbaugh cause he cares about them. They say Gattis is hard to get along with and they say Brown plays favorites and not who's best. I think we can all see that and agree with that. So it looks like either Harbaugh cans them both and makes blockbuster hires, while accepting a lesser extension.. or we'll be on the phone with Matt Campbell, Luke Fickell, Jeff Hafley and Tony Elliott. (Probably in that order)
I'm not surprised that a guy who can't recruit and plays walk-ons over younger highly touted guys, during a throwaway season, is disliked for playing favorites. The Gattis one is surprising, but only they know how he is behind closed doors. Anyway, they need to do whatever it takes to get Steve Clinkscale on the staff... perhaps Harbaugh could convince Mike Yurcich to come in as co-OC (or just OC if he fires Gattis) and give him playcalling responsibilities since Harbaugh's seat isn't nearly as hot as Herman's.

I still don't get the Hafely love. He was co-DC for one year on a team with a lot of NFL talent on that side of the ball and had one of the easiest recruiting jobs in the country. He inherited a 6 win team and won *checks notes* 6 games. I'm sure he's a fine coach but they'd be hiring him for reasons that have nothing to do with his actual accomplishments.

@intra vires I’m cc’n you on this response, so i listened to 24/7 and they said ward is going to offer Jim a reduced salary ( don’t know how much) lower buyout, and more incentives, so it’s pretty much putting it on Jim, he either takes it, negotiates it, or goes to the nfl

i did not know they don’t like gattis
To be honest, I'd be surprised if he isn't back next season. I'd expect Kelly, Day, and Campbell to all get NFL interviews before Harbaugh.

Same but Gattis could just be a hard ass. Guys like Jourdan Lewis and Lavert Hill didn't like Zordich because he's a prick, but he's clearly a good DB coach. I know Gattis is a good recruiter and WR coach but I never liked the hire so I wouldn't be upset to see him leave, especially if he isn't trusted enough to have full control of the offense (and for all we know this is his offense).

it probably is his offense, i doubt Jim was stepping in the way of gattis, i know folks think otherwise, but Jim knows he can’t hold onto the old way and go spread so he had to let go
